(no subject)

I ended the old year fielding drunken text messages from mam, and started the new one by waking to stand in some dog puke. Says it all really.

Having the in laws wasn't that bad at all. They came earlier than expected, and left way late the next day ( making me miss another chat date ...sniff ) but we had fun, even if I kept on furtively clicking refresh on my flist. Not that I could actually click cut tags or anything, what with having the screen facing the main room.

The actual evening was very nice. I read the new Anita Blake book, and enjoyed it a lot due to it having an actual plot, and less sex, thank goodness. I also put on a nice little buffet, and James used his new blender to make various drinks. Lemon schnapps and limeade, cherry vodka alcopops and cranberry juice, and knock off Malibu and pineapple juice ftw! I think I drank more that night than the whole year before combined. Just enough to make me smile happily while watching Take That bring in the new year, because they were adorable, and shiny and happy and there was confetti.

The in laws also made us greet the new year in the traditional way, so James had to stand outside, then knock on the door at the sound of the midnight bells, at which point we all drank more.

We spent new years day lounging around, and worrying about Tex. I seriously thought he was on his way out. I mean, he's an old dog, coming up to 14 now, and he puked all over the house, and was so listless, not even getting any energy when he went for a walk. I was about ready to take him to the vets when he started to perk up. Today you wouldn't think anything had been wrong. The in laws went late yesterday night, and while they were going the MiL said she bet that I was glad to see them go, and hello there guilt.

Today all the decorations have been taken down, and I sorted the house out, doing the laundry/ironing that had backed up over the holidays, while watching some of the shows on the Sky Plus, something that had to be done as we were down to 2% memory.

Which leads to now where I'm happily gorging my way through several fandoms worth of fic. Mag 7, pop, WAT, NCIS, bandom, while downloading shows and reading the flist. Though I was a little annoyed when I realised my mail crash meant I'd lost the password for the slash part of Black Raptor net. It's a part of the M7 fandom I don't get, mailing for passwords seems so weird, but Blackraptor is so awesome a site, I'll have to mail for it again. Still, it's a little thing, and fannish things make me happy, so very happy.

Yes, I've read The Harlequin. Thing is, I don't particularly like Anita, but I DO like the secondary characters. And I've always liked Asher and Jason. But this whole thing about sleeping with *everyone?* Sheesh. It's a bit much. I miss the old Anita of the first, oh, ten books? Where she actually worked on cases and kicked preternatural butt?

She's coming out with a book about Jason. Part of me really wants to see it, and part of me cringes. But more of me wants to read. :-)

And thanks for the encouragement--I can use it. :-D

I totally agree. I don't dislike Anita, but for me it's the secondary characters that are the draw. There was shockingly little Asher and Jason, especially as they've both been so important previously. I mean, it was good that she had more Edward, but I would have traded Olaf perving over Anita's bulging innards for more Damien, Asher and Jason time.

It's ridiculous how many people Anita is sleeping with now, and it doesn't look like she's going to stop adding more any time soon. So yes, the first ten books are the way to go.

Whatever I say I know I'll be buying the Jason book, I just hope it's better than Micah's. That was so short and you learned nothing new, just page after page of Micah's amazingly huge dick. Which hello, LKH, I could go find that stuff at Nifty, keep it out of published books.

*laughs* Yes, you totally called it on Micah. Unfortunately, I'll bet she goes with Jason the way she went with...hmm. What were their names? The two stripper brothers, one a wolf, the other a leopard, whose father was abusive? I have a sneaking suspicion that she'll give Jason some sort of OMGANGSTDRAMAH background like that. Jason was one of the few who seemed to have his head on fairly straight, so let's hope she doesn't mess him up.

And yes, of course I'll get it. :-)
