A little bit of pimping first. [livejournal.com profile] puszysty has a poll for maybe pulling together a Camp Sparkle US. So go, tell her what you think

For all you computer geniuses out there. My monitor has started to fade out if I leave my computer for any length of time. I leave my computer on 24/7 but lately if it doesn't get touched for more than a few hours the screen goes dim, like you can see the windows but only really faint. I can fix it by rebooting, but it's annoying. Any ideas?

I need to paint today. I took a day off yesterday but can't really do that again. Still, I can't do that until Corey wakes up. Hopefully he'll be in bed a few hours yet.

ETA: Why must the Mikey/Pete be so tragic? One glorious summer and then it's over. I want to read about it lasting forever, and by them being alive. Not dying so they can stay together.

Might be the screen backlight going out, in which case you'd need to get the bulb replaced. But hey, I'm no expert.

good luck with the painting!

when you say you leave your computer on 24/7, do you leave the screen on, or on screensaver, or on energy save mode, where either the computer or the screen switches itself off after a certain length of time? (she asks, trying to work out if it's likely to be a physical monitor thing, or a software thing)

I would recommend turning off the screen when you don't use it even if the computer itself is on 24/7. Not because of any technical reason but because the screen is the major power hog on a computer so turning it off will save at least a little money. And if you can't turn it off independently on the computer set it so that it goes into sleeper mode after a period of inactivity, that will at least save a little energy.

I hate how Mikey/Pete is tragic also. Poor boys! I just want them to be happy and together, is that so much to ask?

desktop? I'd just say turn off the monitor when you're not using it.

You can set your monitor to go to sleep after a few hours which might save it. Control panel/power and from there you can set it to however long you need it to be.

Bah, that sucks! Computer problems are so stressing. My monitor died once, but it went out with a bang, so can't help you there! Fingers crossed there'll be no bangs though.
