I'll do Walking By His Wild Lone, and I think it's showing you've got good taste ♥

While Bob never admits it to anyone, the move to run the pet shop was very much him cutting himself off from the world. His life had changed so drastically and he was feeling useless and needy. Running the shop allowed him to prove he could still look after himself ( the weeks after his operations where his parents had to cut up his food, wash and help dress him are weeks Bob never wants to revisit ) and also hide from the people who keep asking if Bob's okay and how he's doing. Animals don't care if Bob takes forever to do simply things sometimes, or that he wears splints or clothes that are easy to put on.

Gerard does eventually help paint the shop. On that day Bob's expecting Gerard only, but within 5 minutes his shop is packed with people who all seem to know each other. It's kind of overwhelming, and Bob's taken refuge behind the counter, trying to understand why all these people would help him. He's only known most of them for all of five minutes and now there's Frank setting up ladders to paint the ceiling and Mikey on kitten sitting duty, and Gerard's showing Bob some designs he's been working on for the window while Ray takes charge of moving the cages. By the end of the day, when the shop is brightly coloured and the window shining, the back door thrown open for ventilation as they sit on the floor and eat pizza, Bob still isn't sure why they're there, but he's glad that they are. Especially when Gerard looks his way and grins, and Ray gives him a not so subtle thumbs up when he sees.

Bob remains a dog man, he thinks all cats are hell beasts and tells them so often. Especially Don the one-eyed cat that no one wants to buy. Not that Bob blames them, even without the eye issue Don's got patchy fur and a snaggle tooth and a tail that's more like a pipe-cleaner. In fact, he's the ugliest kitten Bob's ever seen, and grows into one of the ugliest cats, something Bob reminds him of often as he feeds Don each morning and talks to him as he lies on the shop counter -- always on Bob's forms because he's just that annoying -- and at night when he jumps onto the bed between Gerard and Bob's feet.
