I've just had a good lymphedema appointment.
Before I mention results, I have to say, I'm getting a pair of leopard print, bright blue, knee-length compression socks! Only a subtle print, more like an embossed pattern, but still, bright blue, leopard print!
I saw a new to me lymph specialist and she was so great. Agreed with me that I do have lipoedema too, mainly on my upper legs, and because that's hard to treat, suggested a pair of soft thigh high compression socks I can wear on the days I'm not out and about, just enough compression to help a little, but gentle.
She also agreed I could stop using the compression wraps and go back to the compression socks, which will be so much easier in terms of not having to constantly use my own added Velcro to keep them closed. Like I told her, the wraps work great, but the Velcro doesn't seem to stick long at all, especially when I'm trying to be active. So, I'm getting two pairs of socks too, the blue and a black pair. I could have had two brightly coloured pairs, but thought I'd better get something plain, too.
She also suggested if things keep going well I can get compression shorts or leggings in the future, in one of the colourful prints that look like actual active wear and not just compression garments. Though, my next review won't be for six months, so that would be a while away.
Results wise, I had a Doppler test and my circulation is fine, and after taking all the measurements, since last year I've lost 3 litres of fluid in one leg, 2.5 in the other. So, guess it shows I'm doing something right.
I got hospice transport there and back, which was easy and got me there well in time, so a good appointment all around. Now to just wait for the weeks it'll take for the new garments to be made and arrive.
It was the second new day and time weight management class this morning, and along with two new people a few more of the regulars turned up, which was great. We talked about getting back on track if you've lost progress, and goodness knows, been there and done that multiple times.
It was a good talk, though as usual dominated by the overbearing couple. The exercise part was good, too, with a lot of arm strength focus. So my arms felt like spaghetti afterwards.
Something of interest, in a few weeks or so Rosie is going to offer exercise only sessions on our original Monday time, and also on a Thursday evening, which is great, but also a lot of classes. I'm not sure if I'm going to all three yet, but I really appreciate they're putting on these classes for free.
Rosie finally asked if the gym staff would put a sign on the door asking people not to come in while a class was in progress. She said she was fuming last week at the woman who arrived really early and walked through the middle of the class and then just stood watching as she waited for her own group to start. That must have been the straw that broke the camel's back because yeah, there's now a sign saying keep out.
More gym stuff, which I'll
Monday, I went into the free weight section! I told myself everyone was right, there was no need to be intimidated, and just went for it. I also checked out the other machines hidden around there and really liked the seated pull down weight machine and the leg press.
It did take me a moment to find the lighter free weights, but I did find them eventually and did a set of weighted squats to overhead pushups alongside a man who was bicep curling weights about 70kg more than the ones I had. But it was all good, he took no notice of me at all, which is just how I like it. And yes, just how everyone said it would be.

Good to hear the new class time is working out, and more regulars showed up. It's a shame you have to deal with that one couple. I'm glad to hear you did the weight-machining thing, as that strength training is important. And nice that the guy ignored you so you were comfortable doing your thing!
What a rude person to walk in early! Although sometimes it's THOSE types of people who, for some reason, don't think those signs apply to them. Hopefully, she gets the message!

I'm sure no one is interested in watching me at the gym, they're too busy focussing on themselves. But I was still proud when I actually went into that section, and was promptly ignored *g*
Oh that woman who walked in early was really rude. She seemed to think she had every right to be there, and didn't even pretend not to watch as she waited.

Simultaneous bad gym behaviour and good gym behaviour. I tend to feel mostly invisible in the gym, on account of being Quite Old and not doing anything impressive. Which is nice. Some of those chaps do use mighty free weights, but there are times when I look at them and worry about their spines. Saw someone sitting doing bicep curls, and he was all twisted and squashed up as he strained. Cannot be sensible. Anyway, you do you with whatever weights you need!

Yes! Also, what's all the very loud grunting about? It seems that the heavier the weight, the louder the grunt.
But yeah, I'm doing my own thing. Yesterday I tried the rowing machine. Not sure if I4r like it yet, though.

I'm glad more regulars showed up to class, but I was hoping that new couple would want to go back to their old class. o_O It's nice that she's willing (and able) to put on more classes! And that she finally got the gym to put up a notice because that is so rude of people to just come in during another class!
Congrats on getting out of your comfort zone and checking out the free weights and machines located there!

The new couple, especially the husband, seem to think they should lead the class as they never shut up.I was talking to my friend about them on the way home and she said how she wanted to answer a question but didn't even bother to try because she knew she wouldn't get a word in. Rosie does try to ensure everyone gets heard if they want to say something, but it's always them that answer first, and at length.
I was pleased a notice went up. Not that it should have been needed, it should be evident to anyone you don't gatecrash another class.
Thank you again! I was at the gym again yesterday and ventured into the free weight section again, and it wasn't as scary this time.

Go you and your spaghetti arms!
That does sound like quite a lot of classes but I'm sure you'll manage to figure out a combination that will work for you.
You did it, whoohoo!! I hope you're properly proud of yourself!

Such spaghetti arms, I was feeling that session for days afterwards.
So many classes, at the moment I'm thinking the Mondays and Wednesday morning classes would work for me. Not sure about going somewhere in the evening, especially when it gets later in the year.
I did! I did it and survived :D

And go you for braving the free weights!!

I've braved the free weights again since, but tend to wait until the main grunters are gone *g*
