The flist has amused me this morning, so many posts about Chris and Manband, which come on, best name ever! Personally I say, bring it on! Chris on my tv screen, Chris singing, a cheesy show like this will suit him down to the ground while providing exposure. I get why some people are cringing, but really, he decided to sign up for the show, I'm sure he knows what he's doing. I just have this great image of him cackling away when shown the proposal, realising how much potential there is to laugh at himself and the others.

I've also seen mentions that Kevin could be the fifth unnamed member. Let me warn you, if this happens I'll explode with glee!! I know how improbably that is, but still....

In other not Chris news. The party went well on Friday, I rocked my witch outfit, even when I had to walk to the cashpoint and join the queue while in full witch getup. The club was packed, the band good, if a little loud, there was little mam bad behaviour and the best friend and I had a good time. Which really, what more can you ask?

It was the best friend's birthday on Sunday, so I spent a lot of the weekend with her. Sat we went bowling, though I didn't join in. My shoulders have been aching lately and I didn't think hefting bowling balls around would help. Instead I watched, and drank and ended up at her house playing video games until early in the morning. Sunday it was rugby, then nanna visiting. Dad was there, they've asked him to join a Parkinson's group twice a week, and he was saying how hard it is when he can't talk right anymore. Talk about twisting your heart. Later that day we took Jill and her son out to dinner, but dude, it's good that I love her, not for many people would I be the screen as they placed most of the leftovers into a plastic bag to take home.

The flist has been very entertaining indeed. I have to say I wasn't very amused by this whole manband business last night because it was late and I was already in a bad mood (stupid homework), but it sounds much funnier today. And as you said, Chris knew what he was signing up for.

I guess I'm looking at Manband like this. Yes, it's a cheesy potentially embarrassing concept, but Chris is a grown man, he's been in the entertainment industry for a really long time. You can't tell me he doesn't realise what he's signed up for. He's spent his whole career laughing at himself, why change that now?

I just don't get the extreme reactions I'm seeing. I understand people being worried, but some have gone way beyond that, and who are we to say we know better than him about what he should be doing?

I cannot seriously believe that Kevin would get involved in a show like this. Ever. Let alone when his group still exists! But dammit, that would be so hysterical (especially the episode where the other four invade the house and kidnap Kevin back).

If Kevin wants to be in a manband, he already has one on his own. :) I don't think he left BSB because he didn't like the other guys, but because he didn't want to be in a boyband at the moment.

I think more of my disbelief-cum-confusion about his motives in doing this arises from Chris going back to boyband pop (rather than the music he's been trying to do with his own groups), more than Chris deciding to do a cringingly cheesy reality show. That sentence is horrible, but I hopefully it makes some sense.

And please, none of them would do the carrying, they'd bring the bodyguards along for that ;)

I guess I'm looking at it more he's amusing himself with this than an actual serious attempt to use this avenue to get back into main stream music. I can't see him abandoning the type of music he's producing now. But needing to sing as part of a group again, have other singers around he can bounce off. The show will have a limited run, time he can sing in a five part harmony again, then will inevitably end. If he's missing the others, this could be a chance to revisit a time of his life he loved, while not committing to something long term.

I had a few moments of doubt about Manband, and then I remembered that it's CHRIS, and now I am delerious with joy :-)

In the version MTV did in the UK, they had four UK ex-boybanders plus someone from NKOTB, right? So maybe in the US version they'll have the four US guys plus someone from the UK, yeah? So now, in the shiny world inside my head, the fifth guy must be Mark Owen, and he and Chris will make beautiful tiny Manmusic together.

All I keep thinking is CHRIS! on the tv, and really. Instant smile.

REgarding the rest, I know I'll see it, even if I still can't watch more than five minutes of House of Carters. I'll hold to the belief that a) he'll have to excersice for that thing, and b) he'll have to take that bandana off. Kevin there, as improbable as it sounds, would make me Lol with glee. But I still can't fully embrace the crazyness because it sounds so bad, you know?

I honestly don't think it's that bad. A lot of people seem to be thinking he's doing it because he has to, that he's resorting to any means to be in the public eye. But I just don't see it like that. He's being doing what he wants for a while now, and it doesn't seem that much of a step that the guy who's sung wearing a chicken hat, with viking horns, who's pretty much spent his life laughing at himself would join something like this.

It is cheesy, but it's Chris. That has to be good.

Obviously, not much is going on with Nigels 11 right now. There's been no progress for, um, years. This is a great chance for him to step back from that for a while, and have some fun. And it's not like the rest of the world and/or the music industry takes Chris seriously and this will totally destroy his credibility, is it? But now, he can sing and be Chris for a wide audience, and it'll be great.

Yep. That's exactly how I'm looking at it. It's not some last ditched attempt to record, it's Chris laughing at himself and probably the whole industry. I love the idea that he's doing this, he seems to be living and enjoying his life the way he wants right now. He's never going to be the next big thing again, but somehow, I doubt that worries him.

And Manband is the best name ever.

I think it's awesome to have Chris on TV week to week. I didn't get the whole "oh this isn't good" or the laughing profusely at it. It gets him back "out there" and he's doing what he wants...singing. Will the band take off? Who knows. Who cares..he's having fun and I doubt he'd do it if he wasn't going to have fun.

Thank you! That's what people, I suppose, don't realize or don't want to realize in a case like this. And for the last few years, I think Vh1 has some of the best reality television that american cable has to offer, because they do things well, although not necessarily right, you know? I think he Does know what he's doing.

Is it wrong of me not to want Kevin on the show solely on the basis of hair? Because I'm sure one fist fight is going to break out in the course of the show, I want to see his hair flying. Otherwise, I think he'd be a hilarious fifth.

I just think that Chris has a load of experience in this business, he's a fully grown man who knows his own mind. I very much doubt he's gone into this with his eyes closed. He needs to be given more credit.

I'd love it if they kidnapped their fifth member, though. Like, that was their first mission as a group, to decide who their fifth was going to be and then coordinate and plan a kidnappping and eventual cohersion into Manband. If it just so happened to be Kevin, I'd be fine with it.

I think we're all on crack, and Chris knows it, and he wants to reconnect with his fanbase without the withdrawl of actually, you know, fangirling justin or trying to freebase.
