I've been thinking about this and would it be bad to submit a second story in a series as a challenge entry? It fits the guidelines fine I'm just a little hesitent because of it being a sequel to something.

ETA: Decision made, not doing it.

Is it a Popslash challenge? If so, then I think it's fine 'cause it's within the fandom, no?

If not, can the story be read by itself without having to read the first one?

It is a popslash challenge, the problem I have is you really need to know the first story to understand the second. Which suggests I need to do something new.

Thanks for your opinion :)

I think that would be just fine.

I'm glad you think so :)

I think in this case though I'm going with the new story option. At least it gives me the chance to write some threesome sex ;)

If there's threesome sex to come, I'm totally changing my opinion :).

AHAHAHAH

I love a woman who can be swayed by hot sex ;)

If you link to the first part, it would be alright, wouldn't it?

I was thinking that, but at the same time I'd hate anyone to think that I was making them read the first story, which they'd have to do really if they were to understand what was going on in the second.

I think in this case I'm just going to have to suck it up and write something completely new. Which I do have an idea for, it's just the words won't write themselves, damn words.

[identity profile] castalie.livejournal.com 2005-02-23 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe you understimate people's desire to read your work, sis, cause I don't see how reading the first part before the second one would be such a hardship *g*

I'd like to think so, but you know people, they're always difficult.

No, I'll stick to the new story. That way I can write some threesome sex. All I'm thankful for is TS one is so short.

Thanks for the compliment though :D

Hm. I guess it's okay if the second part stands on its own. I'm not sure. Tricky.

That's exactly what I'm wavering on. See, I could still write a story for the Honey challenge easily. But at the same time I want to work on the Boxes sequel which is already 24 pages and I'd love to get it done and this would give me a push.

But, the thing is I don't think it does stand on it's own, in fact it doesn't because it references stuff from the first story. I keep coming back to the fact that challenge stories should be self contained, which probably answers my own question...sigh.

[identity profile] digital-diva.livejournal.com 2005-02-23 02:05 pm (UTC)(link)
If it has references to the first part then no, I wouldn't submit it. Suck it up, woman. It's what you get for taking on more than you can handle! ahahaha

But you're right.

ahahaha!

Want me to sugar-coat it for you, honey? ;-)

Man no!

I rely on my friends to tell me the truth, I'll let everyone else sugar-coat things for me ;)

Boxes! Oh, I was so hoping that's what you were talking about!

It's a shame because it would have saved time.

But what the heck, new story. YAY!

[identity profile] ihearthings-ii.livejournal.com 2005-02-23 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm all for new stories. it seems to be kind of dead-ish in that area, right now...

[identity profile] silveryscrape.livejournal.com 2005-02-23 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)

Well. I've done it, and wasn't villified to my face. Is it absolutely necessary to read the previous story? If not, you can probably get away with it.
ext_1650: (bbb frog)

[identity profile] turps33.livejournal.com 2005-02-23 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
It probably is necessary to read the first as it's an AU.

Oh well, that's one more avenue to be lazy gone ;)

[identity profile] musicdiamond.livejournal.com 2005-02-23 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I would honestly prefer if the story is in some way at least self contained. If it's a part of a series, is it a WIP or a simple sequel to a first story?
ext_1650: (Bob is a star (samelthecamel))

[identity profile] turps33.livejournal.com 2005-02-23 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
No. It's not self contained, which is why I was hesitating about using it. I knew it was a bad idea, I just needed to be shown that by other people but me ;)

I'll be something new and self contained, don't worry :)

[identity profile] musicdiamond.livejournal.com 2005-02-23 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Alright. ::is relieved::
