Who can resist an ego boost?

Today we've been for a walk to the local nature reserve. There were baby swans there, seven of them, and they were gorgeous! We've also visited nanna and checked out a new farm shop that's just opened. They had some very yummy stuff there but also slightly expensive so any purchases had to wait, but I have my eye on the mushroom sauce and mint gravy. Talking of, I'm going to make some mint sauce soon. We've got a load growing in the garden and I've been saving jars, so, that's something I'm going to try. Our garden is looking so good right now, we've been harvesting and eating courgettes, spring onions and sugar snap peas, and have tomatoes, chillies, cucumbers and peppers growing at an amazing rate. Sadly, my chives are still a tray of soil, I suspect I may have to give up on them.

Other than that, James' bug bites turned nasty and he got a really bad case of celluitis in both arms and has been off work for the week. Which meant doctors visits practically daily and many combinations of medicines and creams until they finally found one that kicked in. He's got another appointment tomorrow morning and hopefully will be cleared for work.

I was reading on a cooking blog how frozen bananas put in a food processor end up tasting like soft serve ice cream. They lie! Admittedly, it tastes nice, but it's no ice cream. Maybe if chocolate or cream was added, but I suspect that's missing the point.

Fannishly, I love Pete's amazing and very weird eye patch

To end. Baaaaa.

I'm glad you had a good day, but I wish James was doing better. Good luck at the doctor's tomorrow.

Your garden sounds amazing!

Swans! We only have boring canada geese and mallards in the lake here. I would much rather have swans.

Farm shops are terrible, everything looks so good but is almost always a little bit too expensive. They're great places to get food related ideas though.

You've been talking so much about your garden I'm becoming EXTREMELY curious how it looks. You need to take photos and show us!

Poor James! I hope tomorrow's appointment will go well and that he'll start getting better swiftly. I'm sending lots of good and healthy thoughts his way.

*boggles at Pete's eye patch*

That is... definitely an eyepatch. Gracious. (It is very Pete, I will give it that!)

Poor James! I'll stop complaining about my bug bites. *wry g* I do hope things go well tomorrow.

Your chives sound like my leeks. What is it with oniony things? ::sigh::

Seven baby swans sounds like the start of a fairy tale.

And I am envious of your garden!

Ai, poor James! I hope his arms feel a bit better very soon.

But I am glad to see that Pete will never stop being Pete.

So, Pete's eyepatch has diamonds and she has a heart painted on her. I'm beginning to think Pete has some confusion as to which are the black cards.

I'm incredibly dense because I never even caught the card reference. But it makes sense, even if the colours are wrong.

What would you put a mint sauce on?

Frozen bananas make an excellent base for an ice cream-free "shake"--I like to add in sugared strawberries and milk. (Plain strawberries are good, too, but obviously not as sweet.) I imagine chocolate would be delicious, too. But I do think you have to add something to the bananas to get to an ice cream-like effect--otherwise it just tastes like frozen bananas.

I put mint sauce on pretty much everything. I love the stuff and will put it on veggie burgers, jacket potatoes, beans on toast. Anything savoury is fair game.

All those additions sound delicious. I haven't eaten chocolate for a while now so I'm going to sit and imagine just how tasty that combo would be, but I love the idea of the strawberries and milk. I've just had the remainder of the bananas I froze and mushed yesterday and you're right, they need something else. Tomorrow I'm going to get strawberries and make a shake. That'll be good for breakfast.

Ooh, plain milk-and-strawberry shakes are lovely, but I haven't had one for *years*. My mum used to make them for us when we were kids. I must get some extra strawberries this week.

Oh, poor James! I was hoping that the bites had cleared up. Fingers crossed that he gets the all-clear tomorrow.

The bug bites went horrible, from dark red stripes up his arms to blisters all over his fingers. On top of both arms being red and swollen. Thankfully that's almost gone now.

Yay for your garden!!

Like [livejournal.com profile] kaethe said, I really like smoothies made of frozen banana, some other frozen fruit and a little milk or yogurt. The banana is so sweet and makes it thick, so that it has the consistency and taste of a milkshake.

I love gardening! I'm enjoying this summer so much.

I'm going to try the frozen banana in a smoothie, see if it kicks the flavour up. Thanks for the suggestion :)

I hope everything goes well for James.

Frozen bananas are supposed to make smoothies really creamy tasting too but I've only had moderate success. Cooking blogs/shows sometimes make me wonder if they have some sort of secret ingredient that is never revealed to make things work like they claim they will.

Pete's eyepatch reminds me of an old ornament which I don't think it quite what it was supposed to do... but then it's Pete so maybe it is. Either way, Bebe looks very lovely.

Thank you!

Cooking blogs/shows sometimes make me wonder if they have some sort of secret ingredient that is never revealed to make things work like they claim they will.

I get that. I've tried making smoothies too and while they're nice they're never to the level I was expecting. There has to be something I'm missing but I've no idea what.

Okay, now I'll forever think Pete swiped that eye patch out of his Christmas decorations box *g* Bebe is hot!

May James' doctors clear him to go back to work, damn bug bites! I'm itching in sympathy.

He's hoping that he is cleared to go back, though it's his usual day off tomorrow so I suspect it may be Wednesday. Damn bug bites are right, they were very nasty.

The baby swans were gorgeous!

yeah, so i was already goint to write a 'pete buys horrible clothes at thrift shops' fic, but this eyepatch only cements how nearly-canon my story would be. oh pete, you are so lovely.
