Today we've been for a walk to the local nature reserve. There were baby swans there, seven of them, and they were gorgeous! We've also visited nanna and checked out a new farm shop that's just opened. They had some very yummy stuff there but also slightly expensive so any purchases had to wait, but I have my eye on the mushroom sauce and mint gravy. Talking of, I'm going to make some mint sauce soon. We've got a load growing in the garden and I've been saving jars, so, that's something I'm going to try. Our garden is looking so good right now, we've been harvesting and eating courgettes, spring onions and sugar snap peas, and have tomatoes, chillies, cucumbers and peppers growing at an amazing rate. Sadly, my chives are still a tray of soil, I suspect I may have to give up on them.

Other than that, James' bug bites turned nasty and he got a really bad case of celluitis in both arms and has been off work for the week. Which meant doctors visits practically daily and many combinations of medicines and creams until they finally found one that kicked in. He's got another appointment tomorrow morning and hopefully will be cleared for work.

I was reading on a cooking blog how frozen bananas put in a food processor end up tasting like soft serve ice cream. They lie! Admittedly, it tastes nice, but it's no ice cream. Maybe if chocolate or cream was added, but I suspect that's missing the point.

Fannishly, I love Pete's amazing and very weird eye patch

To end. Baaaaa.

What would you put a mint sauce on?

Frozen bananas make an excellent base for an ice cream-free "shake"--I like to add in sugared strawberries and milk. (Plain strawberries are good, too, but obviously not as sweet.) I imagine chocolate would be delicious, too. But I do think you have to add something to the bananas to get to an ice cream-like effect--otherwise it just tastes like frozen bananas.

I put mint sauce on pretty much everything. I love the stuff and will put it on veggie burgers, jacket potatoes, beans on toast. Anything savoury is fair game.

All those additions sound delicious. I haven't eaten chocolate for a while now so I'm going to sit and imagine just how tasty that combo would be, but I love the idea of the strawberries and milk. I've just had the remainder of the bananas I froze and mushed yesterday and you're right, they need something else. Tomorrow I'm going to get strawberries and make a shake. That'll be good for breakfast.

Ooh, plain milk-and-strawberry shakes are lovely, but I haven't had one for *years*. My mum used to make them for us when we were kids. I must get some extra strawberries this week.
