You knew this was coming

favorite story this year (of my own): I'm torn between When Day is Night Alone and Grey Crimson Skies. I'm so proud of both of those stories and I've had amazing comments on both. Comments that show people got what I was trying to say, and that's always fantastic. I honestly can't pick.

most popular story this year, in my opinion: When Day is Night Alone, by a long way.

most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion: I'm always surprised when anything I write gets more than a couple of comments. So, I have nothing here.

most fun story: It Might Be Instamatic Flu, the co-write with [livejournal.com profile] mahoni The story was written in comments over a weekend and I remember sitting and just clapping with glee when each new part arrived in my in-box. It was an awesome time and I laughed so often.

sexiest story: Oh man, I don't think anything I write is sexy. 99% of my stories end at kissing and hand-holding. Hidden in Plain Sight was my attempt at a kink meme prompt and went over okay I guess.

"holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story:Well I wrote a lot of h/c this year, with an extra helping of hurt. Which personally is fine by me, my betas may not agree *g* Oh, wait! Mikey and Gerard as mer people was pretty out there.

story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: When Day is Night Alone and Standing On the Graves of Dreams, simply because of writing Panic/TYV. While I love them I've written much more MCR so each time I do write Panic/TYV I worry that I'm doing them a disservice. So those two stories made me look at all four of the guys and really think about what I was writing.

hardest story to write: Standing on the Grave of Dreams. I had a time limit, I was writing for a very good friend and having to lie to her about what I was writing. I had another looming deadline for another exchange. I was dealing with stuff in RL at the same time. My world building was collapsing around me, I was convinced I was writing the worst exchange story ever. I can never thank my betas enough for getting me through that.

biggest disappointment: Hidden in Plain Sight. It's okay I guess, but I wish I could get over myself and write actual sex once in a while.

biggest surprise: That I wrote something over 70k still makes me boggle.

most telling story: Grey Crimson Skies is telling if you know where to look.

overall: I think my pacing and plotting has improved and I've moved on from writing lots of short stuff to taking the time to let stories develop. Of course there's a handful of silly shorts in there and I'm not the best of writers by a long shot, but I can look back and be proud of what I wrote. That's a good thing.

ambitions for next year: My ambition was always to prove to myself I could write something long, and now that's gone I don't know. Maybe at least try to write sex, but that's something I've been trying to do for years and haven't managed yet. I'd like to join bandom big bang and not let my fears of my name being lost in the crowd stop me. I want to write in the When Day is Night Alone and Sound Tracking universes again. I want to write a long canon based Mikey/Frank story. I want to finish my bandom_au story as I've a big chunk of pre-school Bob fic that I love. I want to write Panic/TYV fic and at least try for stories with pairings different to Mikey/Frank and Gerard/Bob. I want people to get that Mikey/Frank/Pete is the best threesome eva! I want to flood the fandom with Ryan and Mikey as secret BFF fic, but that's a secret plot, so shush!

I've just totalled up my word count and it's over 236k, and that's without adding the co-writes because I have no idea how much I wrote for those. Maybe I should aim for 250k total next year, I'm sure you'll all dying for a 100k plus h/c epic featuring lots of Mikey and Ryan \o/

You know, I believe you totally! And if I ever start that 100k h/c epic with Mikey and Ryan I'll be knocking on your door for help *g*

Yeah, I've always planned to write about Mikey/Frank/Pete and what happened when Mikey and Frank were sex slaves and Pete saved them. Apparently I have a thing.

[identity profile] egelantier.livejournal.com 2009-12-30 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
hah, i'll be happy to be of service. any day >:D
(could it be about mikey sibling-ly bonding with orphaned runaway ryan afte gerard adopts him? :D? :D?)

[identity profile] turps33.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Man, that would be pushing the h/c to the extreme to fill that many words!

Oh my goodness. Mikey bonding with runaway Ryan. You know my weak spots for sure.

[identity profile] egelantier.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
you did half of it in like three weeks overall, though? :D?

oh, you know. ryan likes gerard all right, but gerard is an adult and also has power over him (and maybe spencer), and ryan's long out of trust for such things. but mikey, mikey's his age and quiet and reserved and friendly without pushing, and mikey's here - and mikey also knows how easily he could've ended in ryan's position if gerard didn't manage to pull himself together at the last minute after helena's death. soooo...

[identity profile] turps33.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
That is very true. But so many words in such a short time is something I'm not going to make a habit of.

OMG! I have notes about this story! How did that happen?

[identity profile] egelantier.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 02:38 pm (UTC)(link)
i'm up for betaing, you know ;)))))))))

Ahahahaha. You're awesome.

When I start the Ryan bashing you'll be the first person I contact :D

[identity profile] egelantier.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 02:40 pm (UTC)(link)
lol i love that this is my reputation in this fandom :DDDDDDD

[identity profile] nahemaraxe.livejournal.com 2009-12-30 12:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, sex. I wish I could be like other authors, the ones who write awesome porn in one-two-three, but whenever I get to the porny bits, I need to kick myself all the way through it. I like it (in a very complementary way, I think it's the plot that matters most), just GAH. Not exactly my strongest point.

I think you should know that I'm dipping my toes in the sci-fi-space-au-stuff for the first time now and I blame both you and [livejournal.com profile] mahoni for it ;)
ext_1650: (Bob is a star (samelthecamel))

[identity profile] turps33.livejournal.com 2009-12-30 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I wish I could do that too. I'm like you, if I do need to write sex, which is very rarely, a scene takes me as long as thousands of non-sex words. It's insane.

YAY! I'll totally take that blame! That's awesome.

[identity profile] withdiamonds.livejournal.com 2009-12-30 02:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I think everybody's name gets lost in the Big Bang crowd. That's just the nature of Big Bangs.

That's awesome that you accomplished your goal of writing. And, hey, I can't write sex anymore. I used to, and when I read some of my old stories I'm boggled by the sex, and I think, did *I* write that? But now, I just feel silly.
ext_1650: (reach for a star ( roxyicons))

[identity profile] turps33.livejournal.com 2009-12-30 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I suspect you're right. Unless you're some kind of major bnf.

Yes! Silly is the word. I like reading sex scenes and am very impressed by anyone that can write them, but when I do I end up breaking things down and just thinking it's ridiculous.

[identity profile] llamabitchyo.livejournal.com 2009-12-30 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, Terri, you are so awesome in your ficcing.

Please to be considering a 100K plus bus accident fic with crazy half-blind Justin, too. ;)

Revealing look at you and your stories! I vote for Grey Crimson Skies as your best this year. But you know I love that story.

239k, damn that's insane! Go you!

Mikey/Frank/Pete is the best threesome ever.
ext_1650: (Frank/mikey1 ( crazybutsound))

[identity profile] turps33.livejournal.com 2009-12-30 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I do know you love it. You're very awesome like that ♥

Well you know, the shelter fic bumped that up a lot.

They are!

[identity profile] tempore.livejournal.com 2009-12-30 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Every goal you've mentioned sounds awesome. :D Especially the words I want people to get that Mikey/Frank/Pete is the best threesome eva. I can ride that bus, or I can substitute out Bob in place of Pete, but either way, yes, please. It's the only time I like Pete, honestly, is when he's paired with Mikey.
ext_1650: (Mikey/Pete 2 ( turloughishere))

[identity profile] turps33.livejournal.com 2009-12-30 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I love Pete/Mikey so much, but it's a pairing that tends to be written really bittersweet. I'd love more stories where they're just happy together, no angst or inevitable break ups.

[identity profile] tempore.livejournal.com 2009-12-30 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I wholeheartedly agree.

I'm with Kimberly, Grey Crimson Skies is totally your best story this year! I have so much love for the Gardening universe as a whole, together with Sound Tracking it's my favourite of everything you've written ever!

You can write sex, I've seen you! You "just" have to find that mental space again.

Everyone gets a little lost in the crowd during BBB so you should definitelyy not let that fear stop you from participating next year. I love that you want to write more in the Sound Tracking universe! There is nothing wrong with writing Gerard/Bob, it's an awesome pairing :-D And you're soooo wrong, the best threesome ever is Bob/Gerard/Frank! Or possibly Bob/Gerard/Mikey or Bob/Gerard/Ray ;-D
ext_1650: (Bob is a star (samelthecamel))

[identity profile] turps33.livejournal.com 2009-12-30 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, but you haven't read my other favourite so you wouldn't know! :P

Seriously, thank you. I love that you let me know you like them so much.

You see everything! *g* I don't know, maybe I'm doomed for one sex snippet per year.

Ah, but see my plans are to write the Mikey/Frank/Pete story from Soundtracking and I know you won't like that. But I will concede Bob/Gerard/Mikey is a nice threesome.
turlough: purple crocuses (gerard way is adorkable)

[personal profile] turlough 2009-12-30 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I can feel it!!

I bet you're miffed that you wasted this year's effort on Frank/Gerard then ;-D

You're going to attempt that sex-slave pre-story then? Or is it going to be a sequel?
ext_1650: (Default)

[identity profile] turps33.livejournal.com 2009-12-31 12:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahahahaha, you know, if anyone could feel a story it would be you.

Well, I'd like to attempt the sex-slave pre-story but I know it would only appeal to a tiny audience. Which isn't a problem as such because I write what I like, just it'll probably be something I work on in fits and starts and not an actual full on story. If that makes any sense at all.
turlough: purple crocuses (does anyone notice)

[personal profile] turlough 2009-12-31 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
It does, at least in the sense that I understand what you're talking about (the idea that you would voluntarily write something like that doesn't really though ;-)

[identity profile] ephemera.livejournal.com 2009-12-30 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
wow - that wordcount is seriously impressive!

(also, I'm a little sad that I had to step back from your beta team and missed so much goodness in progress. It's so *odd* for me to be reading about your years writing and not know the stories intimately. Damned work, eating my head. And Hurray for your awesome beta team!)

236k is an awesome word count! Go you! Also, I am guessing that if you broke it down then 230k would be hurt and 6k would be comfort, that's about right, yeah? (j/k! For all my whining and sending of emails begging for some fluff, I do so love the way you write. ♥)

Pre-school teacher Bob! I support your goal of finishing that.

I've enjoyed your stories so much. It's interesting to read your thoughts on them!

Writing Instamatic Flu was SO FUN, yes!

That's an awesome word count!! And you definitely should be proud of what you've written.
