favorite story this year (of my own): I'm torn between When Day is Night Alone and Grey Crimson Skies. I'm so proud of both of those stories and I've had amazing comments on both. Comments that show people got what I was trying to say, and that's always fantastic. I honestly can't pick.
most popular story this year, in my opinion: When Day is Night Alone, by a long way.
most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion: I'm always surprised when anything I write gets more than a couple of comments. So, I have nothing here.
most fun story: It Might Be Instamatic Flu, the co-write with
mahoni The story was written in comments over a weekend and I remember sitting and just clapping with glee when each new part arrived in my in-box. It was an awesome time and I laughed so often.
sexiest story: Oh man, I don't think anything I write is sexy. 99% of my stories end at kissing and hand-holding. Hidden in Plain Sight was my attempt at a kink meme prompt and went over okay I guess.
"holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story:Well I wrote a lot of h/c this year, with an extra helping of hurt. Which personally is fine by me, my betas may not agree *g* Oh, wait! Mikey and Gerard as mer people was pretty out there.
story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: When Day is Night Alone and Standing On the Graves of Dreams, simply because of writing Panic/TYV. While I love them I've written much more MCR so each time I do write Panic/TYV I worry that I'm doing them a disservice. So those two stories made me look at all four of the guys and really think about what I was writing.
hardest story to write: Standing on the Grave of Dreams. I had a time limit, I was writing for a very good friend and having to lie to her about what I was writing. I had another looming deadline for another exchange. I was dealing with stuff in RL at the same time. My world building was collapsing around me, I was convinced I was writing the worst exchange story
ever. I can never thank my betas enough for getting me through that.
biggest disappointment: Hidden in Plain Sight. It's okay I guess, but I wish I could get over myself and write actual sex once in a while.
biggest surprise: That I wrote something over 70k still makes me boggle.
most telling story: Grey Crimson Skies is telling if you know where to look.
overall: I think my pacing and plotting has improved and I've moved on from writing lots of short stuff to taking the time to let stories develop. Of course there's a handful of silly shorts in there and I'm not the best of writers by a long shot, but I can look back and be proud of what I wrote. That's a good thing.
ambitions for next year: My ambition was always to prove to myself I could write something long, and now that's gone I don't know. Maybe at least try to write sex, but that's something I've been trying to do for years and haven't managed yet. I'd like to join bandom big bang and not let my fears of my name being lost in the crowd stop me. I want to write in the When Day is Night Alone and Sound Tracking universes again. I want to write a long canon based Mikey/Frank story. I want to finish my bandom_au story as I've a big chunk of pre-school Bob fic that I love. I want to write Panic/TYV fic and at least try for stories with pairings different to Mikey/Frank and Gerard/Bob. I want people to get that Mikey/Frank/Pete is the best threesome eva! I want to flood the fandom with Ryan and Mikey as secret BFF fic, but that's a secret plot, so shush!
I've just totalled up my word count and it's over 236k, and that's without adding the co-writes because I have no idea how much I wrote for those. Maybe I should aim for 250k total next year, I'm sure you'll all dying for a 100k plus h/c epic featuring lots of Mikey and Ryan \o/
