Jan. 15th, 2013 07:18 pmToday is a day for staying in. It's been snowing constantly for a while and everything is cold and slippery outside. Far better to stay in and catch up on stuff. Which I have been doing as it's now evening and I started this post this morning.
Since the last time I posted I claimed and wrote my story for No tags. So now I'm feeling proud that it's only the 15th and I've two challenges under my belt. Of course, they're both short challenges and I still need to edit no tags, but still.
I joined trope bingo, and my card is
Now, I haven't got the best history with bingos. I love joining them and seeing the cards, but seem unable to actually finish everything. No doubt that's what will happen here too, but I'll give it a go, because really, there's not enough fuck or die in the world.
Back in the day I wrote Blurring Lines, a story where Gerard draws Mikey into life. Then
teigh_corvus wrote some incredible poems based on the story -- seriously, if you're backing away at the thought of poems, don't, they're great -- and then this week
sylvaine created a joined pod fic of both right here. I think that's so cool, one idea presented in so many ways. All things are linked from that post if you're interested.
I've been enjoying the new pictures of Gerard, and Frank's new website, which so far has been a mixture of endearing, amusing and boggling. Also the sparkly stuff. Justin making music again, pictures of Lance and Chris, Joey doing his marathon.
We went to see nanna on Sunday, and it was like a meeting of the bad backs club, what with nanna still suffering and James off work with his. My dad, his partner and my uncle was there too, so it was a bit of a squash in the front room. We got to talking about E readers, and for some reason my dad's partner still thinks I love Mills and Boon books because she was saying how I'd have loaded romance stories onto my Kindle. Which yeah, I have, just not the kinds that she means.
What I have been reading is The Rivers of London series. It's so good. I just started the second book and am really enjoying it.
Mam appealed her pub watch ban and had it overturned yesterday. Last night, about half an hour after James had to go and drive her home, we got a phone call from the police because she'd fallen off the step and been lying in the snow unable to get up. She's okay, and I'd say it would be a lesson that would make her stop drinking, but then I laugh forever and just think, yeah, no.
And now, back to tacking my in-box I go.

Date: 2013-01-15 07:38 pm (UTC)I've no idea where she got the idea I love Mills and Boon books from. At least she's stopped sending me bags full of her old books. I was getting quite the collection of the things *g*

Date: 2013-01-15 09:35 pm (UTC)Oh I hear you. I have a pile of actual books plus all the stuff on my kindle that needs to be read. But I heard so many people talking about Rivers of London I pushed them to the top of the queue.

Confess, you're addicted to bingo cards! ;-) I think you should write the AU: Space square.

Actually, I was thinking about the space AU in terms of a bbb, so that may push before the bingo square.

Date: 2013-01-15 10:25 pm (UTC)Oooooh, my bff gave me the first of the Rivers of London series for Christmas! Haven't started reading yet, what with exams and all (and getting sucked into Hobbit/LotR fandom again and thus of course starting a reread of all the books), but I'm looking forward to doing so come Easter.

Date: 2013-01-17 02:02 pm (UTC)It's odd but I've found I don't like reading novels on my ereader. Fanfiction, yes, even long fanfic, fantastic. Original novellas, yes - but novels? I want a book. I don't know why.
I enjoyed Rivers of London (Peter getting distracted by historical plaques, etc while on duty, hee.) Haven't read the others yet but the library has them so I'll get to them!
Sorry about your mum. *hugs*

Date: 2013-01-17 07:18 pm (UTC)I have a mix, reading on both my kindle and actual books. It would save me money to just read on the kindle, but sometimes I just like a book in my hands. So I get that.
Peter is such a great character. I really like how he's not police material at all, but found his own niche.
Thank you <3

I went through a period in college where I read SO MANY Harlequins, and then I got so sick of the formula. Fic is far, far preferable!

AFAIK, out of the 530 books currently in my ereader, about 70 are actual books. The rest is all long fic (from 20k words up).
