Some of you will know [livejournal.com profile] dancinbutterfly either personally or through her stories.

Back in 2010 she wrote You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison, a story I know many people have read and enjoyed. It's also a story that means a lot to her.

Someone has blatantly plagiarised the story with a shoddy cut and paste job and posted it as a Supernatural story at A03.

Guys Like Us.

That anyone thinks it's okay to change names in a story and present it as your own is beyond me.

It's not. Plagurism is wrong. Simple as.

ETA: The story has been taken down from A03, but is still up at FFNet here

it's NOT okay, soooo not.

It's been so long since I'd heard of people doing this that it's shocking to find out that this has happened here.

Wow. They couldn't even be bothered coming up with their own title.

Let's hope it gets taken down asap as it should be.

OMG that is one of my favourite stories! ;_; How desperate do you need to be, to claim other people's work as your own...
UGH I was involved in a huge debate this evening about what is being taught in universities about creativity and submissions of 'work' vs claiming other people's work as your own.
Something in the world is going very wrong that people think it's OK to do this grrrrr

I just felt I had to check, and yup the spellling errors (few) in danceinbutterfly's work are still there ARGH! I wrote a nice passive-aggressive note on the 'work'

*COUGH* Um, private message me the typos? It's been two years but I still like to fix things I got wrong. /o\ Thats another way to know that its mine - ages gone by and still stressing out about typos in the story. (NO MATTER HOW MANY SPELLCHECKS I DO ITS NEVER ENOUGH! *FALLS OVER*)

That's fucked up. Wow. I'll have to figure out where to go to report someone. And then I am going to go read the original story because somehow I think that one got by me.

This is the first plagiarism case I've "experienced" and I'm both disgusted and confused. How on earth did they think they were going to get away with it? It's such an OBVIOUS plagiarisation. Hopefully AO3 won't just make them take down the story but also ban them permanently. /feels vindictive

I never could figure out what people get out of plagiarism of fanfic. It's not like all the kudos and comments are for them, and they know it, so WTF?

Hopefully FFN takes it down soon too.

I've now sent an abuse report to FFNet, too - let's see whether they work as fast as AO3 did!

No, I've complained to AO3 as well and they sent me an answer that thry've removed the story, so it wasn't the plagiarist.

That just sucks.

There's an LJ comm -- [livejournal.com profile] stop_plagiarism. If your friend reports it there, they'll check into it, contact the other author and the archives. Sometimes having "weight" behind the investigation will get more results. (And sometimes not, but it at least makes more noise than one author can.)

Aaannddd... I see she has. Good deal.
