May. 18th, 2013 12:37 pmIt's chucking it down at there right now. Thankfully I don't have to go anywhere, so am just pottering around and watching the rain through the windows. Though the pottering has to be relatively quiet as James is on night shifts and has decided to crash on the couch instead of going up to bed. At some point I'm going to get to work on my bbb draft, I figure a week break is more than enough and I do have filler scenes to write. So, once I post this it's coffee and writing time, and maybe thinking about who I can ask to do an alpha read/answer questions for me.
Some catch ups. After finally being referred for an x-ray it was discovered that nanna had crushed a vertebra in her back. It makes me angry at her doctors that no one would actually listen to how much pain she was in, saying over and over it was just bruising, until finally, a doctor who had just joined the practice actually did something. She's finally started to feel a bit better now, especially as she's been given a walking stick, but still, it's been 5 months since she's left the house alone, and she used to be really independent.
In news that will surprise no one. James' work was supposed to come and take all the computer equipment out of the spare room after deciding to scrap the at home work scheme. So, over a year of trying to make it work, an insane amount of money to fit and pay for a high speed second internet line, building a desk in the bedroom, and many visits from BT engineers and it's scrapped. Except of course, the IT dept cancelled at the last minute to take the computers away. Go figure.
We thought we'd lost Tinker earlier in the week. Discovered she was missing and turned the house upside down while Corey walked the estate and James drove asking if anyone had seen her. I really thought that was it, she was gone, but when I went in the garden to start looking outside myself, I heard her squeak. At some point she must have snuck outside when I was either putting out or taking in the washing, and then found herself trapped outside. Thankfully she didn't try to leave, just hid under a crate, but man. My heart. The thought of losing another pet was heartbreaking.
We've been planting out seedlings this week. It was a beautiful day two days ago, and then overnight things changed to cold, wet and grey. Hopefully the stuff in the greenhouse will be okay, but the poor runner beans will be waterlogged.
James is going to France with the Scouts next Friday so we've been doing a lot of organising for that, including trying to get a letter from the doctor for insurances purposes, something that caused a lot of hassle and James fretting he wouldn't be able to go. But, thankfully that's sorted now. He's already started to pack his case, and without clothes it's already half full with his spare leg and supplies. I'm glad I'm not the one humping that thing around.
ladyfoxxx did a meme where she wrote sort of not fic if you gave her a fic title. I gave Your Can't Fuck My Brother -- not that I was hinting at anything at all -- and she replied with a most amazing notfic that ended Mikey/Pete/Gerard, because she's magic and somehow knew I liked such things. If you want to read go to this post where there's other notfics to enjoy, too.
And now, I should open that file. But, coffee first.

Date: 2013-05-18 12:47 pm (UTC)And I hope you'll make lots of progress on your BBB (I'm so excited to read it once it goes live) today :)

Date: 2013-05-18 06:08 pm (UTC)Thank you. I opened the file and wrote a little but then got distracted reading a Mikey/Ray story. In my defence, I didn't realise it was 45k when I started. That took out a chunk of my day.

Date: 2013-05-18 06:22 pm (UTC)And that story's already on my ereader - everyone seems to love it :)

Date: 2013-05-18 06:27 pm (UTC)I thought it was fantastic, though some people brought up issues that I can completely understand. Not going to spoil you though. But it was delightful to read such a long, well written Mikey/Ray.

Date: 2013-05-18 05:30 pm (UTC)did James' employer give any reasons for the change - I mean, they spent a lot of time and money to make it happen, and it's not been long enough for a fair trial, has it - or were the technical problems not resolvable?
I hope his scouting trip goes well and that you enjoy some writing time while he's gone (and a bit of cuddling with Tinker, now she's safely back inside)

Date: 2013-05-18 06:07 pm (UTC)Nope, no reason at all, just that they'd decided to pull the scheme. It's been such a waste of money and resources, and is especially stupid as they'd just managed to solve the line issue and were at the point where the only thing needing doing was test calls.
I'm sure he'll have a great time. And I'll have plenty of hugs from the cats.

Date: 2013-05-18 09:15 pm (UTC)What?! After all the trouble they've gone to and all the money they've put into it they've decided to scrap it? How incredibly stupid!
What a scare about Tinker. You have to be more careful about closing after you in the future!
Our week's been the opposite of yours. It started out rather chilly and ended with summer temperatures. I hope you'll get the sun and warmth back soon.
I hope James' will have lots of fun in France.
I saw from your comments that you ended up reading instead of writing today. You're so lazy ;-) Good luck with the writing anyway!

Date: 2013-05-25 02:15 pm (UTC)It is stupid, and I have no idea what his work is playing at. It wasn't just James' that was pulled either, but all the at home working set ups. The amount of money that was wasted would be horrendous.
We've been very careful since she got out. I don't want that scare again.
Well, it's sunny today but it's been a horrible week, even hailstoning at one point.
I did read. Lots *g*

Date: 2013-06-04 03:18 am (UTC)Also, I can't believe that James' job would dismantle the home project after trying to set it up for so long. Suckage!

Date: 2013-06-16 07:44 am (UTC)I was so annoyed with James' work. I mean, the whole point was for situations like last week, where he could have worked for a week while his leg was bad. Instead they've had to pay him sick pay and goodness knows how much for the scrapped scheme.
