Sep. 10th, 2013 11:30 amIt was Corey's big project for his citizenship scheme on Sunday. The group he's in had pulled together a charity fair followed by a concert with three local bands. It was a lot of hard work but went great. In the end they made well over £400, which is fantastic going. This scheme has been so great for him, he's made new friends and learned how to do things like organise a charity event while working with others. Not bad for a bunch of 17 year olds. He's already put his name down for next year, when the slightly older kids do such things as go abroad for their charity work.
Yesterday he started college again and wasn't impressed that on a Wednesday he doesn't finish until seven. But, that's the difference between the sixth form he was in last year that stuck to a 9-5 timetable and an actual college, where sometimes he does have to stay late, or, on two days, only has to be there for a single two hour lesson. He's looking forward to it though, and seems much more settled than he was at the end of last term.
It's also his awards night for the scheme tonight, and Corey only told us on Sunday morning. What we should have done is say, tough, you tell us this late we can't get there. But the reality is, no way would we have missed it, even though it meant James reworking his shifts. Apparently it's a dressed up kind of event. Corey's bought himself a shirt and tie and I need to find James' smart clothes to change into when he finishes work.
After a few days off James is back at work now. His work has been incredibly nice and understanding, but like everyone is telling him, it's no wonder as they messed up big time, especially with the alarm cords not working. But, his fall has caused things to be changed trust wide. No one is allowed to shower in two of the showers any more -- for some stupid design reason the showers were put in the disabled toilets and people got lax about water on the floor, which I suspect contributed to him falling. So, from now on people can only shower on one of the floors, with the other two floors out of use shower wise.
The tomatoes are still going red, which I'm thrilled about. I love tomatoes on toast for breakfast, and being able to eat tomatoes we've grown myself is incredibly satisfying. James and Corey also made a bench for our garden. The council have been revamping the seafront, including installing new benches. A month or so back we were down there and James saw a pile of old bench legs, and asked if he could have some. They said yes, and on Friday he finally bought the wood to make a bench. It's nothing fancy, but is big and strong and perfect for the garden.
My plans for today were to get stuff done in the house while helping post at the
mikeyway_daily celebrations. But that leisurely plan has been knocked on the head as I forgot to fill mam's tablet organiser yesterday and her heating has gone off again, so I need to go up there soon. But, shower first, another quick post at mwd, and then up to mam's.
Talking of mikeyway_daily. We'd love other people to post there today. It is a community based on pictures, but one picture or a hundred in a spam, icons, graphics, Mikey centric recs even, as long as you post them along with a picture we want to read/see them.
Fannishly. I enjoyed looking at these Danger Days props. But my goodness, Power Pup looks even more disgusting up close.

It's good to hear that James is well enough to be back at work. (And that they seem to be doing something to prevent more accidents happening.)
Also nice to hear about the tomatoes and the new garden bench. It always feels extra nice somehow when you can utilise a free find like that.
Hi Tinker! You're adorable.

Date: 2013-09-15 11:46 am (UTC)James got back to work and then had to take a day off as mam ended up in hospital again on Friday. As annoying as they can be on occasions, like the alarm issue, on the whole they're a really decent place to work for.
I love our new bench. I got to chill out on it the other day when dad came to visit
the tomatoesme.Tinker does enjoy a good box *g*
