Nov. 21st, 2013 03:45 pmThis morning we took mam to the hospital for an appointment about her throat. Her doctor had been worried about her being hoarse, and she's had to have two chest x-rays in the last few weeks where the doctor phoned the house and said she had to go get them done immediately. Throat cancer was always there as the worst case scenario, but today we found out that it's not that, and in fact, is nothing serious at all. Which is a huge relief, and another worry crossed off the list.
Then after that appointment we popped in to see one of mam's friends. She's an alcoholic, and is being moved to a hospice today as she's dying. It was sad seeing her, the nurse who let us visit for a few moments warned how bad she was, but seeing her, swollen up and unconscious, gasping for breath was horrible. It got mam upset, and I really hope she gets how close she came to being in that state. And to be honest, I still worry she still could once she's well and more mobile again, especially as she still drinks in the house.
Got home to mam's, sorted her tablets out for the week, then came home. James crashed on the couch as he's in the middle of a set of night shifts, and dad came to visit. So James went upstairs to sleep, and I talked to dad, who wanted to tell me all about the new will he'd set up, and about the treatment he could be having for his Parkinson's. He's been having a bad time of it lately, taking a bad turn last week. With Pauline still being off her feet due to her hip replacement he's having to go to a hospital appointment tomorrow on his own, which is hard for him as his speech is so bad. So I said we'd drive him and take him there.
My knee is feeling better, and will hopefully stay that way now, though walking up or down any kind of a slope still makes it hurt. But, that's a small thing when mostly it's pain free.
I do have fannish things I want to talk about, but I must tidy the tip and write, so those will have to wait. However, I did want to share some actual good medical news for once I'm going to post this first.
Oh, and share the t-shirt I bought my niece for Christmas. Just call me Auntie Enabler *g*

Date: 2013-11-21 03:58 pm (UTC)And good luck to your Dad and his appointment.
Glad also that your knee is feeling better! Being able to walk is such a good thing.
Ahahaha, that T-shirt is funny.

Date: 2013-11-21 04:16 pm (UTC)I still have to tell James we're taking dad in the morning. He should be fine, though. I felt bad for dad. He's been offered this new treatment but it means he has to go in every day for eight days and that's impossible when Pauline is off her feet. He finds speaking so hard, but is also going stir crazy stuck in the house all the time.
Being able to walk is awesome. Now it just needs to stop acting up on slopes. I'm walking up the street not climbing a mountain! *g*
She's going to love that t-shirt. She's at the age where being Mrs Malik is something to squee over and dream about.

Date: 2013-11-21 04:19 pm (UTC)But your poor Dad. Parkinson's is such a horrible disease. Good luck to him with the treatments. I hope they help.
Dreams are good! I still have my dreams of winning the lottery. It is sort of like being Mrs. Zayn Malik. *g*

Date: 2013-11-21 04:26 pm (UTC)Funnily enough, she was told today that she needs speech therapy as the hoarseness is due to muscles in her throat pulling apart. Dad also gets speech therapy at the place mam will go to. I have visions of them meeting there, which will be interesting as it's been many years since they've been face to face. At least after so many years tin throwing shouldn't be going on *g*
I have to admit, I'd rather win the lottery than marry Zayn.

Date: 2013-11-22 03:06 pm (UTC)Can you arrange for the ambulance service to take him? I found a link for them in your area.

Date: 2013-11-25 04:04 pm (UTC)I saw him yesterday and discussed the service with him, and hopefully he'll agree to actually using it. It would make a lot of sense to do so, and mean he actually can start his treatment. What he was going to do was put his name at the back of the list, so goodness knows when he would have been seen.

Date: 2013-11-25 04:36 pm (UTC)I hope he says yes, and can start his treatment sooner. We're working at the moment on getting some day-to-day assistance for R's mum and step-dad, who are both really unwell and frail, and I know how hard it can be to persuade people they need to accept some help.

*highfives* being an enabling aunt is part of the fun(I remember when my aunt bought my sister a Ricky Martin shirt for christmas and my sister had a happy fit of happiness)

Date: 2013-11-21 09:13 pm (UTC)I hope your knee continues to improve! Mostly pain free is very good (though not as good as completely pain free, obvs). My mum would sympathise with you -- we go for a drive to go for a walk, silly as that sounds, because she needs to walk where it's flat, which is not immediately around here!
Glad to hear your mum's hoarseness is nothing serious, and I hope the treatment helps your dad.

That makes a lot of sense to me. I can walk around just fine on the flat, but as soon as I hit a slope my knee protests. Not as much now, thank goodness, so I'm taking that as a good sign. I hope your mum is healing, too.
Thank you ♥

Also glad your knee is feeling better! :D *hugs* <333 Omg that's a great t-shirt, heeee. How old is your niece?

Date: 2013-11-25 04:00 pm (UTC)Yeah, it is sad about her friend. She passed on the day after being moved. I'm glad we went in when we did.
Thank you ♥
My niece has just turned 11. The prime age for wanting to marry boyband members I think *g*
