turpsI have my computer back. Sort of.
It's a long story that involves spending money we couldn't really afford, having to swap my tower for an old one of Corey's, the computer guy saying the hard drive was fine but the mother board had fried and that he's save all the info from it, being given a disc back and realising the info what he'd saved was a few folders of meaningless stuff only. I swear, the moment I realised that I could have put my head on my desk and cried. After calling the repairman he said there was a virus too which had corrupted the files, which he hadn't said before. So I don't know. There could have been viruses, he could have just wiped without even trying hard to save stuff, I had to stop thinking about it because I know I'll never get a concrete answer.
I thought I had backups of photos after swapping computers last time, but it turns out not so much. I have a handful of personal photos on photobucket and James has some duped on his laptop, but most were gone. I've spent the last week or so using photo recovery software, which is why it's taken so long to actually post etc, as I was worried about overwriting things by installing new programmes. But, I've got as much as I'm going to I suspect, even though I still haven't given up completely.
I've also lost all the saved emails from friends going back many years, plus email address. I can get those back from the web based gmail, but as I pretty much use that for storage only, there's 100s of thousands of emails/comments/spam on there, so sorting would be a huge job. But, at least they're still all there somewhere.
It's a mess and I want to stress, even if you think you've got personal date/pictures etc backed up, please check again and make sure.
Other things are going okay. Corey turns 18 in two days -- which, the fuck? -- dad is doing great and as Pauline's granddaughter turns 18 the day after Corey dad's booked a big meal for us all at a lovely resturant. Then it's straight into the big cluster of other birthdays. I did want to go celebrate with a meal for mam and Kayleigh, Kay, that side of the family, but they're not speaking right now.
So yeah, getting back to normal online. Normally I always make sure I catch up/comment on everyone, but I think this time I may have to admit there's just too much and start from now. Maybe go back a little because I'm nosy like that.
However, I did get online the other day and ended up backing out again after searching about the new Mikey stuff. Some of the things I saw on tumblr and twitter disgusted me and I wish people would remember that the person they're kicking with their words is a real person with very real problems.

Date: 2014-02-09 08:45 pm (UTC)In the future you might maybe look into some form of automatic backup? Either online as topaz suggests or on an external harddrive at home. I have a backup program that automatically does backups once a day to a 1TB USB drive. Since I started doing this some years ago I don't feel nearly as anxious I'll lose stuff that I used to. (And when I'm away from home for any lenght of time I bring it to my mother's place so even if a burglar might take my computer I will at least still have all my information!)
Eighteen??!! No way!!! I totally refuse to believe he's that old :-) Wish him a happy birthday from me!

Mikey and Sarah apparently broke up and some people didn't react well. I'll never understand why certain people think it's okay to go on social media and talk crap to celebrities.
