My FiL just been to pick up my nieces birthday presents and cards, and I had to pull him up off the couch. We made such a bad choice with that thing, it's so low that it can be hard to get up out of. My dad has given up trying and just brings in a kitchen chair now. But, it's not like we can replace it at the moment so it's going to have to stay.
It's a beautiful sunny day today, which is lovely, but it feels like the weather can't make its mind up. We're jumping from being so cold we've had to put on the heating to so warm we're using the fan. It needs to make up its mind already, but I have to say, I am looking forward to autumn. It's my favourite season by far.
I've been watching Firefly this week. It's a show that's been recced to me multiple times, and one I suspected I'd like a lot, but I just never got around to watching it. Then Corey bought the box set and asked if I wanted to watch it, and then SyFy showed an episode a night and I just thought, okay, I get the picture. And of course, I do like it a lot.
I've also been watching Got to Dance, the final of which was on Friday. Even now, two days later I'm boggled at the eventual winner. Also, boggled at the sad lack of Ashley/Adam/Kimberly fic, because they're just perfect together. The last two seasons just weren't the same with Adam gone, but now he's back and all is right with the world. Well, apart from the lack of fic.
I enjoyed all of the performances, but liked this one by Kaner Flex. He's a body contortionist and also autistic. Which is why this performance is so amazing because the difference between his audition and this piece was huge. I can't even begin to imagine how hard it must have been for him to express his emotions like that. Also, this, Bitter Harvest, the first time a classical ballet act made the final.
Kristen posted a photo of Mikey holding her tiny baby niece. I do appreciate her dedication in taking photos of him and sharing them with the world.

Date: 2014-08-31 02:48 pm (UTC)It's such a great series, at least what I've seen so far and I'm sure that won't change. I can see me being one of those people shaking their fist at it being cancelled when I reach the end of the season.
Let's go be bad guys
Date: 2014-08-31 03:24 pm (UTC)I own the DVDs too. *g*
Got to Dance- I'm still bummed the Nottingham Cossacks didn't make the cut. Would I know who won? /curious

I thought they were father and son when we first watched. They were good, just not as good as the others imo. I suspect getting red stars from some of the judges in the final created a sympathy vote element.
People being wrong in reality show voting, it always happens *g*

Date: 2014-08-31 08:45 pm (UTC)It got warm again here at the end of last week - I could even sit on the balcony on Thursday! - but this weekend it's been grey and dreary and rainy. It really doesn't seem like the weather can make up it's mind at all right now!

Date: 2014-09-02 06:50 am (UTC)The weather is all over the place right now. It looks like it's going to be a nice day today, though. Which is good as I really need to get out and tidy the summer flowers which are past their best now.

Date: 2014-09-01 12:48 am (UTC)Low seating sucks. I end up being the type of person to roll off and crawl to something I can brace on so I can climb slowly up while dramatically >.<'ing about how the couch/seat/sofa/chair/object of sitting on was trying to eat me but I got away.
One day I need to watch my Firefly DVDs. I have it but have only seen Serenity.
(right now I'm watching the anime Psycho Pass on Netflix..it has surprised me so far in it's sci-fi interestingness)

Date: 2014-09-01 06:41 pm (UTC)Ahahaha, I laugh but I recognise that roll, crawl and brace action. If my couch didn't have arms I'd be stuck there forever.
You should watch! Or you know, be like me and put it off for years.
That sounds like a very 'you' show. Enjoy it!
(Relatively) easy couch fix...
Date: 2014-09-01 02:18 am (UTC)Check out a local lumber/hardware store, see if they'll cut 6-inch (more or less -- long enough for the couch legs to sit solidly on top) lengths off a 4x4 post.* Put one under each leg of the couch (flat, not standing on edge), and your couch will be 3.5 inches higher.
(At least, here in the USA. I dunno; England may have actual-sized lumber, so you'll gain four inches.)
If they don't have posts (like for a mailbox), you may have to buy a full 8-foot length, which can be a bit pricey, and you have that extra length left over. But, it's better than years and years of difficult rising from a too-low couch.
Yeah; I'm on the short side, and I don't fit the world, so I make it fit me! <g>
*You may only need the width of a 2x4, but that would only lift 1.5-2 inches. If rising from the couch is that difficult, I suspect that small extra lift wouldn't be enough.
.
Re: (Relatively) easy couch fix...
Date: 2014-09-02 06:47 am (UTC)I'm not actually sure on lumber sizes, but I can find out, and yeah, an extra 2 inches really wouldn't be enough.
I would have been happy just getting on with it myself, but after seeing my FiL struggle so badly I realise something has to change.
So yeah, I'll be hitting the DIY store tomorrow when James is off work. Thank you.
