turps: (bite me)

This morning I was commenting to [personal profile] sperrywink that I hoped Mikey's Electric Century announcement would be new music. It was a faint hope, but still, it was there. But of course it wasn't that at all, instead it was him telling all about needing to go to rehab and his addiction issues and how he'd hit rock bottom early this year. source

None of that was really a surprise. The hints have been there for a while and yet again I have to say how much I respect him for continually pulling his life back together. I can't imagine how hard it must have been to get clean on top of dealing with the band breaking up and yet another relationship breaking down.

I admire how honest he's been and that he's got the self awareness to know that touring could be bad for him. It makes me sad that I may never see him perform again, but ultimately, I'd rather he made music in his own way while living his life being healthy and happy.

And I'm aware that this is me being an over-invested Mikeywife, but I hope the people who wrote such horrible things about him on tumblr earlier this year feel a little guilty right now.

Mikey Way, man. He's not letting go of my heart any time soon, that's for sure.

Changing the subject. I cooked with quark tonight. It appears to be this magical stuff that can be used for both savoury and sweet dishes. I made mac and cheese cooked with leeks alongside roasted courgettes and butternut squash.

Which is another thing. Butternut squashes are delicious, but why must peeling them be so hard? By the time I finished hacking at mine it looked mutated.

So you know, if you have any butternut squash peeling tips beyond going at it with a big knife, please share.

Don't bother peeling the butternut squashes! I've sometimes bothered, and sometimes not. The skin may cook soft enough that you can eat it, and if it doesn't it is much easier to separate flesh from skin when it is cooked. I recall leaving most of the squash skin (covered in gravy) on my plate, and Socks made off with it. As it never reappeared I can only suppose that she ate it...

Roast the squash first! Then the skin comes off easily. Or use a sturdy veg peeler

it's a little more expensive but if you want to keep some for emergencies waitrose sells frozen, peeled, butternut squash sections that you can roast straight from the freezer

ahh, my German relatives love quark, but we can't get it here because of the way milk is required to be pasteurized.

I was hoping for music too, but i am also glad he got help.

And I don't mind if he never tours again, but new EC music would be a blessing.

♥ Mikey.

And screw the haters.

I don't think it's being overinvested to wish that at all. People who write horrible things on their tumblrs SHOULD feel bad!

YOu can use quark for baking too! It makes both ordinary bread and cakes moister and less prone to drying out.

I see you've already gotten advice about butternut squash. For what it's worth I agree with Pen about roasting it first. You can pretty much just scoop out the flesh with a spoon once it's done.

I'm really glad he's doing better, and was open to sharing this, and encouraged others to seek help. Mikey. <333

Oh, T., your words regarding our Mikeyway are so heartfelt as well as tender. I might've gotten a bit shiny-eyed. In all truth, I'm so happy to hear that he's practicing some much needed self-care and potentially releasing new EC music sometime in the (near?) future.

BTW, I'm just as invested in him as you are (and, like you, I hope that all the people who were horrid towards him do feel guilty about whatever they've said).

ION, I don't think I've ever peeled a butternut squash? Like, I've never deemed as a necessary step in the process. YMMV.
