Snowflake Challenge Day Two
Jan. 2nd, 2015 11:59 amDay 2
In your own space, create a list of at least three fannish things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for - a fannish wish-list of sorts. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your wish-list if you feel comfortable doing so. Maybe someone will grant a wish. Check out other people's posts. Maybe you will grant a wish. If any wishes are granted, we'd love it if you link them to this post.
(1) I've mentioned how writing was hard for me last year. I just lost motivation and the longer that went on, confidence. I even started to wonder if I was done writing wise, then things changed in the last few weeks. First I started to read through the bandom holiday exchange stories, and was reminded that yes, I still love the fandom. And the second was
onthehill sent a whole load of comments on old stories. Due to my ongoing thunderbird mess I haven't replied yet, but the boost I got was incredible. So I guess this is my long winded way of saying I'd love if people sent feedback to fan works in general, not just mine but everyone's. Old, new, kudos or comment. It makes so much difference to know what you produce is being enjoyed.
(2) Links to desktop backgrounds -- I know and use Turlough's already. Between the crash at the start of last year and getting a new computer my backgrounds are very sad now. Obviously I like bandom, but I also like space, owls, cats, or maybe a Groot. That would be cool.
(3) This is tied to the first so is cheating a little. I've seen so many posts recently where people mention talking into the wind when they post something, and I find that sad. I know it's hard to comment at times, and I'd hate for people to feel forced or uncomfortable, but if you read a post and feel an urge to reply, do it. Don't feel what you're going to say doesn't matter or has been said before or that the person who's posted doesn't want to hear from you. I'm sure that they do.
(4) One that will never happen. I wish that the Mikey/Pete ship would stop being called Pikey. I hate it so much and each time I see the word I cringe.
Tacking onto the snowflake post. I got my picfor1000 challenge picture this morning. As soon as I saw it I started to laugh. It's perfect

Date: 2015-01-02 12:33 pm (UTC)I'm glad you've been feeling better about your writing, though. I think 2014 sucked for a lot of us.
I love you and admire you greatly, if that helps. <3

Date: 2015-01-02 12:44 pm (UTC)2014 was the worst in so many ways. I hope 2015 is better for us all.
Thank you. That's a lovely thing to say ♥

Date: 2015-01-03 05:26 pm (UTC)And yeah, those comments came exactly at the right time.
I love my new computer, but keep finding things I've forgotten to load. But, slowly it's becoming more mine.

Date: 2015-01-02 03:09 pm (UTC)(3) Ditto. I miss the fannish conversation - I suspect quite a lot of it happens on Twitter these days, which makes me sad.
(4) Go Mete?

Date: 2015-01-03 05:31 pm (UTC)Yeah, a lot of conversation happens on twitter. I have an account there and do post on occasions, but because it's so immediate and fast I can never keep up. I don't like that, I prefer a nice backread and to comment on what people post.
Mete would be much better than pikey. Even writing that makes me cringe.

Date: 2015-01-03 05:35 pm (UTC)I experience Twitter in a minimal way, ie via websites. I look at Lance's most recent tweets fairly regularly, and a few others' too, but the idea of getting them randomly but all the time fills me with horror. I'd much rather have a page of conversation that I can actually follow!
On reflection, go Wantz!

Date: 2015-01-02 05:39 pm (UTC)I love your call for feedback to all.
I sometimes find portmanteau names amusing, but Pikey sounds dumb. Why not Mete? (Also, I never got why Spirk beat Kock.)

Date: 2015-01-03 05:33 pm (UTC)Thank you ♥ I love getting feedback so figure the more of it out there in the world the better.
Okay, I was all grumbly about the name thing but Kock just made me laugh a lot. That would have made much more sense.

Date: 2015-01-02 06:48 pm (UTC)I hope you'll find some fun backgrunds.
I'm afraid I've become a bit cynical about this. Yes it's sad when you feel like you're talking into the wind and noone is responding. BUT far too often it seems to me that the people who complain the loudest are the ones who do the least interacting themselves. At least from what I've seen here on DW. You can't expect others to interact with you if you never interact with them. So yeah, less complaining and more activity is what I want.
Urgh, all smushnames are horrible and should be stopped!!
ETA: Totally perfect pic for you!!

I agree with that. I have to admit to eye rolling in the past when someone complains about getting no comments when they don't comment or interact anywhere themselves. But, I've also seen people say they feel awkward about commenting, or that they're afraid people don't want to read comments from them. That's what I'd like to change, because as far as I'm concerned, the more interaction the better.
