I want to believe
Jan. 26th, 2016 08:02 pmI've had a very nice day today. We finally went to see Star Wars and I enjoyed it so much. When it was done I wanted to turn around and go see it again. Though we did pointlessly sit to the end of the credits for nothing. I should have known there was no end scene as I'd seen no mention these last few weeks, but at the same time I hadn't actually been looking in case of spoilers so we stayed just in case.
Before that we'd had dinner and a wander around the Metrocenter, where I bought a Unicorn Horn bubble bath bar from Lush, one that looks disturbingly like a sparkly pointed butt plug. I did have a picture up on instagram, and laughed at it all the way home, but when I got home and looked on my computer I deleted the picture as the flash made my nails look like they're manky, which they're really not. Link to the Lush page if you want to see
I also helped reunite a little three year old boy with his dad after I noticed him walking around by himself. I watched for a while in case he was just walking in front of his family, but nope, he was totally alone and heading for The Disney Store, so I caught up with him and stayed with him while James got one of the Disney workers who within seconds had radioed for security. It was very impressive how fast people arrived to help look for his family, not that the little boy seemed all the fussed, he was just transfixed by the Star Wars display at the front of the store.
Then five minutes after we got home Corey called for a chat which was really nice.
Yesterday I watched the new X Files ep. I was so nervous doing so because X Files was huge for me back in the day. I was a from season one episode one watcher, and I can remember getting really annoyed when my little cult show I loved so much and was tucked away on BBC2 was moved to BBC1 because it meant it was now mainstream.
My love for that show was true and immense and is tangled up with memories of a stage of my life when everything was changing hugely. Mulder and Scully, I loved them so so much, and while I gave up on the show toward the end -- because an X Files without Fox was an X Files I didn't want to see, the way I felt about those early seasons has never changed. So I was so nervous about these new episodes.
I have to admit, I got goose bumps hearing the theme tune and the first sound of Mulder's voice. It wasn't a perfect episode by a long way, and had faults, but my nostalgic self was very happy with what I watched, and I'm very much looking forward to watching the next episode, which will be tomorrow now as I'm full of nachos and Star Wars feels and need to go chill on the couch and watch some tv for a while.
But yes, an excellent day.

Even though I do have the first two eps of the X-Files miniseries downloaded, I find myself kinda reluctant to go watch them. Like you, the X-Files were my jam since S1 (gods, I have vivid memories of napping after dinner and watching the recorded episode later on Friday nights as I was getting ready to go clubbing). I dropped the show sometime in S6 out of sheer frustration. Of course, like any fan, I did tune in for the series finale (which, sadly and obviously, made little sense to me).
In some ways, I know that the mini-series (I've seen some reports that they might use the momentum from the mini-series to develop an actual series sometime next year) will not measure up to some of my most beloved episodes ("Bad Blood", "Deep Throat", "Die Hand Di Verletzt", "One Breath", "Jose Chung's From Outer Space", "Humbug", "Kill Switch", "The Unnatural", and "Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose), but I do want to believe!
Anyhoo, it's great to hear that you had a good day and that you to finally check out the cheerful madness that is TFA. ;)

Date: 2016-03-01 04:33 pm (UTC)I remember thinking the same coming out of Mad Max. Both movies had pulled me into their universes so well I didn't want to leave.
Ahaha, yes. Yes it does. I'm glad other people agree.
All those X Files titles *______________*
They had some brilliant episodes, and not so brilliant ones. These new eps will never measure up to my love of the early seasons. There's no way they ever could really, but I think they've done decently well. Though admittedly, I still find it hard to separate my nostalgic love for love with what I'm watching now.

Date: 2016-01-27 09:06 am (UTC)Yay for Star Wars! I enjoyed it lots too, and you're not the only one who sat through all the credits Just In Case!
I've been thinking I need to watch the new X-Files for nostalgia's sake. ;) I wasn't a huge huge fan, but one of the other girls in my year was, and we actually had special permission to stay down in the TV room to the end of the episode, as long as we were ready for bed (this was boarding school, so, enforced bedtimes), and just watching it that much I got pretty invested!

Date: 2016-03-01 04:29 pm (UTC)Star Wars was excellent. But I do wonder if the cinema staff were sitting looking at their monitors and laughing at the suckers waiting around for the non-existent end scene.
Did you ever watch X Files? A lot of people seem to have a huge amount of nostalgia for the show. It seems to have been around at important times for many fans.

Date: 2016-01-27 12:48 pm (UTC)I've watched the first Xfiles and I really don't know how I feel about it - I can't separate nostalgia from it yet. I suspect I'll see a few eps in.

Date: 2016-03-01 04:27 pm (UTC)I can't help grinning that other people see it in the same way and it's not just me being a pervert. But I agree, it does smell great. Looks, not so much.
Have you watched any more of the X Files eps? I did prefer number three with the monster of the week. They do those kinds of episodes well.

Date: 2016-01-27 07:08 pm (UTC)I don't think that's the shape I would chose for a bath bar. It can either remind people of a dildo - if it's taller than the bottom is wide, a buttplug - if it's slightly squatter, or a pile of turds - if it's even more squat. What it does NOT look like is a Unicorn Horn :-D
I did read a bit in the X-Files fandom back in the early 2000, but I've only ever watched a few episodes of the show and wasn't that impressed by it. Does the new mini series have Krycek in it? It's the only reason I can think of to watch it ;-)

Ha. Yes! It's such a weird shape. I mean, it smells great, but it's not the best looking product of theirs that I've seen.
Sadly Krycek was shot between the eyes in one of the last eps. So unless he comes back as a ghost again I suspect he won't be appearing. Which is a shame as he was an excellent character.

Date: 2016-03-01 05:10 pm (UTC)And actually, I'd believe it if they ever said that actually happened. I mean, weirder stuff went on, and he was the kind of guy who wouldn't be killed so easily.

How are you finding them? I'm assuming some will feel a bit dated now.
