Mar. 22nd, 2019 05:16 pmIt was the anniversary of when I met James for the first time yesterday, 27 years since that first meeting in a dodgy nightclub in Sunderland. I'd like to say we'd celebrated in a good way, but we spent all day at the hospital.
Two days ago James came home from work and said he'd had a bit of a funny turn. He finished his shift but had given himself a scare so wanted to go to the doctors before work yesterday. So, because it's the only way to get an appointment, we were queuing up at 8 at the doctors. Could only get an appointment with someone he hadn't seen before, and when we saw that doctor he sent James off to hospital. Thankfully not in an ambulance, but with a warning not to drive, so that was another £30 in taxi fares yesterday.
The staff at the hospital were great. Because he'd been sent in with a high heart rate and really high blood pressure he was taken to one of the critical care rooms where he could be hooked up and monitored, and then started the ordeal of trying to get blood. Two different people, four different places in his arms and eventually they managed to get about a cm from his foot again.
Thankfully they quickly realised he wasn't actually at risk and didn't need monitoring so we were sent to this very nifty ward for ambulant patients that could be moved from A&E and watched a little less closely. It really was a pretty good set up, the patients staying in bays together where there were recliners and comfy chairs, all circled around tables. People could rest there while in the process of having IVs etc but actual treatment and talking to the nurses happened in private rooms, the communal areas were just for waiting. Then people would either be discharged or sent to a ward.
We were at the hospital from 10 until 6, mainly waiting for tests to be run and the eventual cause of James' issues turned out to be one of his meds which can cause high blood pressure and high heart rate, but as it's addictive he needs to be weaned off it and maybe something else replace it if the side effects are too bad. He also had to see his own doctor today, which we did, meaning another queuing up at the door at eight, and she agrees with the assessment about weaning him off one med and also put him on another new one with the comment she doesn't know why they hadn't done that in the first place.
Not that either of us place blame on the doctor, James is on such a powerful and extensive cocktail of painkillers and other meds that it takes a lot of juggling. But hopefully, once this one is out of his system his blood pressure will drop and he'll feel much better.
Kayleigh has been doing a load of overtime so I haven't seen her in person for a while. We eventually caught up and it turns out she's broken up with the girlfriend she was dying to introduce to me and is seeing someone new tomorrow. I can't keep up with her. But, she's enjoying herself, and really that's all that matters. Last year sucked for her, too. So it's nice to see her smile again, and if that means lots of dating. So be it.
In other smile worthy news. My next door neighbour had her first baby last weekend, a very cute and adorable daughter. The neighbour's sister is Kayleigh's long term BFF meaning my neighbour is also a family friend, so it's been so fantastic to see how happy she is. What's also nice to think about is they got mam's couch, so I keep seeing it in photos along with this tiny squishy baby.
And in cinema news, before James went on the sick we saw Fishermen's Friends and What Men Want. Both enjoyable but both not really standouts.
To end on a lighter note. You all know how much I love Lush, but sometimes some of their products are.... well, how can I say unusual looking. I saw that bunny looking out of the Lush window and it wants to harvest your soul!

Date: 2019-03-22 07:00 pm (UTC)you know, seeing that bunny in a window would put me off the brand forever! it's horrifying, and probably scares small children - who thought that was a good idea?

Date: 2019-03-24 04:02 pm (UTC)I don't know what they were thinking with the bunny. I get that bath bombs would be hard to sculpt/form and would give some slack for a vague bunny shape. But it's the eyes, the weird nose. Again, what were they thinking?!
Excellent icon choice, btw.

Date: 2019-03-24 09:46 pm (UTC)I'm actually most excited about the new med I am trying because I might be able to stop 2-3 others, which would be great and reduce my own cocktail.
Awww, that is smile worthy news! It is always wonderful seeing family stuff live on.
Ah, Kayleigh. At least she is having fun.

Date: 2019-04-20 06:56 pm (UTC)I hope your own med changed helped and you can drop those others. That's one thing that tends to happen, you take one thing and it leads to side effects that mean you have to take others. It's a vicious circle.
Kayleigh is still seeing the newest woman but is classing herself as single now, just dating every now and then. Which is probably for the best.
