I got a letter from my doctors yesterday saying I'd been formally discharged from the weight loss surgery programme at the hospital and my doctors would be taking on my care from now on. Now, considering my last appointment at the hospital was at the back end of last year and I was told I was discharged then, I'd say the doctors are running a little behind.
For some reason my computer has decided to not detect my kindle fire. It still charges fine, but when I attempt to use calibre it just doesn't see it any more. It's not a huge deal as official kindle books will still upload wirelessly, and obviously I can read fic directly at the page, but any books that I download that aren't kindle version just aren't happening.
James' flare has turned into a big flair which isn't really much of a surprise. Thankfully it's only his right side that's affected badly and as he drives one handed anyway, can still drive for short distances, though it is only short as he gets very tired easily right now. As soon as the doctor saw him on Monday he signed him off work for two weeks with a review then to see if he needs more time, Sadly all he can do is be patient and wait for all his ligaments and joints to loosen up again. I've been mean by making him go out for walks because the last thing he needs is to seize up completely, which is what will happen if he sits on the couch for a fortnight. We've had wanders into town to have a coffee at Costa, been to sibs dinner on Thursday, and to the cinema at Durham.
I'm so glad that's opened now, it's such a short drive away and fits into the whole gentle walk thing with a lot of resting. We went to see Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which I really didn't like at first, got into it and started to enjoy the aesthetics and feel, and then sat wide eyed and wincing at the end. I also came out thinking there was bound to be fic, and yep. This is the best I've read, capturing Cliff's voice so well, though, obviously, contains a load of spoilers.
Today the heat has rocketed back up again and we're apparently going to have another heat wave over the weekend and bank holiday Monday. The weather is just so weird, I was feeling autumn in the air last week and now we're right back to what feels like high summer.
The date for Strictly has been released -- though Gorka isn't a main dancer this year, sadness, and Bake Off starts next week. Bring on the autumn tv, even if it is scorching out there.

Oh no, I hope it passes soon for him and it doesn’t get worse *hugs*
I’m glad you had a nice time, I dunno anything about that film though.
Yeah the weather has been exactly the same here, eww. Aww no. He was one of the good ones. I’m not sure I know any of the celebs for it really though. But yay bake off!

Date: 2019-08-24 04:53 pm (UTC)Sorry about James' pain. May the walks help! Gotta keep everything flexible. And yay for the new cinema. From your Instagram it appears to be in a picturesque part of town.
Bummer about the heat wave. Wish we could send you some good weather vibes, it's cool and comfortable here in the Chicago suburbs.

Date: 2019-10-19 01:54 pm (UTC)Thankfully people in this post reminded me I could email fic to my kindle so I've been doing it that way. I still don't know why it stopped transferring wirelessly, though.

Date: 2019-08-24 08:42 pm (UTC)Poor James! Sending him lots of good and healing thoughts! And hopefully you'll have excellent walking weather for the next fortnight :-)
Our weather was lovely today, sunny and just warm enough. And the clear and crisp air prevented it from feeling too much like high summer. Though it's supposed to get MUCH warmer tomorrow (+29C *shudder*) but hopefully that won't happen!

Date: 2019-10-19 01:58 pm (UTC)He really had a bad time of it these last few weeks. Thankfully fully mended now, and I really hope it stays that way for a very long time.

Date: 2019-10-19 02:00 pm (UTC)As I apparently totally forgot to reply to the comments on this post, you'll know that they did. I have to admit, Neil's fallen a bit flat for me this year. And recently finding out he'd done a played for laughs dance with Katya in fat suits when they were performing has made me go off him even more.
I miss Gorka, I'm always pleased to see him in the pro dances and on Insta.

Date: 2019-09-02 07:28 pm (UTC)I'm glad you enjoyed Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. I watched it for free and didn't, hahaha. But what else is new, huh? #LOL
There's a hurricane off the coast right now. Thankfully, it's not due to hit any part of my city. Though it's brought a lot of overcast skies and rain. It's worked wonders for my mood since it's nowhere near as sunny as it would normally be around now.

Date: 2019-10-19 02:05 pm (UTC)It would be good. Alas, many lifetimes ahead.

Thinking about it now, I don't think I'd enjoy it watching on the small screen and away from the cinema. It was very much a thing where i was pulled into the story and I think if I'd have had any distractions I would have bailed within the first half hour when I was feeling iffy about any enjoyment.
I'm still waiting for a film that I think it's excellent. I've seen a load that I've enjoyed well enough, and a few that were terrible. But still nothing stand out where I've wanted to turn around and go right back in.
I hope the weather is much better for you now. I'm assuming it won't be as sunny at least.

Date: 2019-10-19 05:25 pm (UTC)Moviewise (and not counting A: Endgame or Captain Marvel), the only two movies I've watched and enjoyed so far are Hustlers (about a group of strippers who con stock brokers) and Ready or Not (a horror comedy about a woman trying to survive a gruesome version of Hide and Seek.)
There are only 11 upcoming movies I'm v. eager to see (in semi-chronological order):
- Parasite. It's a South Korean movie that's gotten a LOT of buzz. The premise is about a poor family playing a con on rich family. That's all I know and I'm dying to see it already.
- Terminator: Dark Fate. A total reboot of the Terminator franchise with Linda Hamilton back in the fold. I'm moderately enthusiastic about this one.
- Charlie's Angels. Yes, it's a reboot of the Charlie's Angels movies from the early 2000s and yes, it's probably gonna be super cheesy. I...really don't care? Sometimes you're just in the mood for super cheese. Plus it's directed by a woman and that adds to my yays about it.
- Portrait of a Woman on Fire. French film about two women who fall in love with each other. It's the artiest of all the movies I'm looking forward to. Everyone I know who has seen it (at film festivals) loves it.
- Pain and Glory. It's a semi-autobiographical movie by Pedro Almodovar featuring a lot of the actors who have appeared in his movies. Antonio Banderas plays a fictional version of Almodovar. This is a must-see for me because I've been a fan of his movies since the late 80s.
- Queen & Slim. A modern version of Bonnie and Clyde that features police brutality and racial tension in the US. It's gonna hurt but lorde I want to see this now!
- Jojo Rabbit. - I'm going to see this because it's by Taika Waititi. The theme isn't my cuppa but I'm a fan of his so what am I to do.
- Knives Out. - Written & directed by Rian Johnson. A huge cast (including CEvans as a douchbag grandson which I'm all for) in a murder mystery. Has had great buzz.
- 21 Bridges. - Chadwick Boseman is a cop trying to trap a trio of cop killers. I'm A-OK with this kind of thriller.
- Black Christmas. A horror remake by Blumhouse so I'm all for it. Oh, and the director is a woman. Also, I'm the least Christmas-y person ever so this appeals to me in many ways, LOL
- Star Wars Episode 9. - I'm...hyped for this one even though JJ Abrams gets on my nerves with his damn lens flares.
ION, the weather's been mostly overcast so my mood's been excellent. Sunset's also happening earlier which, for me, it's a win.

Date: 2019-11-11 05:37 pm (UTC)I know you liked the first, and think you'll have liked Terminator. But the ones that aren' out yet.
I'm looking forward to Charlie's Angels, because I do like a bit of cheese.
Never seen mention of Portrait of a Woman on Fire, Pain and Glory, or Queen and Slim. Though, I suspect they'll appear in the early new year.
Oh, that's good about the buzz for Knives Out. I've seen the trailer and wasn't sure about it. But, am easily influenced. We've already planned to see 21 Bridges, but Black Christmas. On one hand, I'm such a sucker for Christmas movies. Seriously, I'm so eager to see Last Christmas it's unreal. However, I'm also a wuss, so that could cancel out that Christmas love.
And you know, Star Wars, needing to see that is a given despite me not being a super fan.
Now you've got me all excited about upcoming films :D
