Oct. 29th, 2019 08:07 amHappy belated birthday to
doomdays. I hope you had a great day with your family and Salem ♥
I hope the cats body clocks adjust to the clock change soon. Having Tinker launch herself onto my chest from the windowsill is a very abrupt start to the day, especially when it's just gone six in the morning.
So yes, the clocks went back and cats aside, I'm okay with that. It did mean when we went to my aunt's on Sunday our dinner was already pretty much ready to serve as we walked through the door at 1 pm. That surprised me as normally we sit and chat for a bit at first, but it turns out she hadn't changed her kitchen clock so had started to cook earlier than needed.
It was a good visit, and as always I came home with leftovers, some muesli, fake yellow rose petals and some corn on the cob holders. Oh, and my oldest cousin also bought me some new instant coffee pods. Sometimes mam and my aunt seem nothing alike, sometimes, like when I'm leaving the house with a bagful of stuff, it's obvious they were cut from the same cloth.
It was good that dinner was nice as the food where we'd gone with Pauline the night before was poor. The company was great and it was lovely to think about dad, but the actual food, nope. Thing was, we were all too polite due to the occasion until we got out and everyone said they hadn't really enjoyed what they'd eaten. The people in charge are relatively new and I just don't think they have the details right yet. The sauces in the holder were empty and instead of going for new ones the guy serving searched other tables and eventually brought other bottles that were also almost empty. There was a place setting missing, none of the steak eaters got steak knives, just things like that that showed lack of care.
We normally go there for our Christmas meet up, but after that and disappointing food we're going elsewhere this year. That's been like herding cats trying to get a date as along with us there's Corey coming and my uncles' family. But, I think I've managed to pin it down so we're off to pay the deposit this morning.
James is mid-way through a week off. An actual planned one this time and not sick related, so we've been out and about every day. Yesterday we went for a walk at High Force and it was beautiful. Another crisp sunny autumn day where it was a pleasure to be outside. You can see some photos of that here, including video of the waterfall itself that was looking nicely impressive. On the way back we called in at Durham as I'd bought an afternoon tea at Patisserie Valerie. It was bought on a voucher and only cost £10 for two, and I'm glad about that as the actual tea wasn't that great and I would have been feeling ripped off if I'd have paid the original £25. I've seen amazing afternoon teas elsewhere, but this one really wasn't.
Today we need to go pay the deposit, and after are heading off to Metrocentre after to see Zombieland 2, then the Bake Off finale tonight. Tomorrow I'm giving blood in the morning and also taking my niece and nephew out before the fostering people come in the late afternoon. Who knows, they may actually turn up this time.

Date: 2019-10-29 09:04 am (UTC)Sounds like a good visit. Mum was the same about the clocks, even though I’d told her about the change the day before.
Oh no, that does so bad. It’s a very British thing to be too polite to say anything until it’s too late. Sounds like a good idea to change the place for Christmas
That sounds nice, though it’s a shame the tea wasn’t great. Hope you have a nice time out today and that blood goes well tomorrow

Date: 2019-11-03 03:45 pm (UTC)There's always someone who gets caught out by the clocks changing. And I always take a day or so to start adjusting myself. It's amazing how much difference that hour makes.

Exactly. I have sent food back before, but only when it was just me and James. It felt wrong to complain when we were such a big group. But the meals really were poor.

Date: 2019-10-29 03:22 pm (UTC)Hope kitty adjusts to the time change quickly. We set ours back this weekend and, fortunately, Brady generally reacts to US and our routine, not the clock (so like dinner is once we're both home, whether it's 15:30 or 16:00.).

Date: 2019-11-03 03:43 pm (UTC)They're some kind of plastic I think and scented. I'm not actually sure what you're supposed to do with that exactly. Kayleigh's got hers in a jar with some fairy lights, which looks nice.
It was a nice gesture from my aunt. Mam's thing was yellow roses so my aunt bought all us sibs a yellow rose plant for the garden. So, I guess when she saw the petals she thought we'd like them. And they are nice. Just, still sitting in the box still atm.
I wish my cats were like Brady. As it is, I'm sure they have built in internal clocks. At least one does, if she doesn't get fed at her set times you'd think she was starving to death.

Date: 2019-10-29 09:04 pm (UTC)What a pain about the restaurant, going elsewhere for your festive meal sounds like a good plan.
I hope you liked Zombieland - and what a great week to have off!

Date: 2019-11-03 03:40 pm (UTC)We've booked another restaurant, one we've eaten at and enjoyed before. So, hopefully it'll be both a good meal and meet up.
I did like Zombieland, very much so. The humour really worked for me.

Date: 2019-10-30 04:09 am (UTC)Your walk in the woods looks lovely though!
And I hope the foster care visit actually takes place, after all this waiting.

Date: 2019-11-03 03:38 pm (UTC)It was an excellent walk in the woods. Such a perfect autumn day.
No, still waiting for the foster visit. Though, at least we knew it wasn't happening in plenty of time this time.

Date: 2019-10-30 09:48 pm (UTC)How sad that the new ownership proved to be such a big disappointment. I hope you've managed to find a much better place for the Christmas mee-up.
What a lovely place for a walk! I'm so envious you have places like that close where you live! (And that your autumn is still in full swing! Here most trees are all naked now.)
I hope the fostering people did show up!

Date: 2019-11-03 03:36 pm (UTC)Well, we've booked somewhere else, but the new date means Corey can't attend which makes me sad. But, it really was like herding cats trying to get something that works for everyone.
Autumn is in full swing. The trees outside my house are a gorgeous red/yellow still. There are a few naked ones, but most leaves are clinging on.
Nope, they did not. But we got told in plenty of time so that was okay. I can't hold it against them as they'll have a hard job dealing with children in desperate and immediate need and we're just getting something official started. But at the same time, I do wish it was finished already.
