Snowflake Challenge 6
Jan. 12th, 2020 05:09 pmChallenge #6
In your own space, make a list — anything between one and ten things is a sweet spot, but don't feel constrained by that! - of things that you wish existed in fandom or elsewhere, or that you'd like someone to make for you. Are you dying for podfic of your writing? Do you need icons for a character that doesn't get much fanart? Is there a story you want to read? Are you looking for new canons to get into? Would you like a collaborator for a project?
I've been thinking of this, and okay, my list.
Icons. I really need some new ones. Fannish: new bandom would be great, for example, any recent RyRo, FOB or MCR and man, how good it remains to be able to say recent MCR. But also, I'd love something winterhawk, which would have to be from the comics probably, Musketeers would be great, especially Aramis, Schitt's Creek, The Good Place, maybe some Voyager.
Non-fannish: something featuring products from Lush or a big bubbly bath and something cinema related. Or cats. Cats are always great. Or the beach.
On that note. I'd love a new header, I don't mind the one I have here at DW even if it is basic, but my LJ layout is a disaster due to Photobucket, so I could do with a totally new header over there.
While I don't need it now, I'd love someone to read over any MCU stuff in the future, which no doubt will be winterhawk. I do have an excellent beta but I don't want to lean on her too often... says the person who wrote a handful of times last year.
Recs for fic involving Mag 7 with Vin/Ezra, Musketeers with an Aramis focus or Leverage OT3 of Parker/Hardison/Eliot. My main love is h/c but I really will read anything as long as it doesn't involve humiliation.
Comments or kudos to my stuff would be fantastic.
And to extend that. If you do enjoy a fannish work please tell the creator so. That doesn't have to be via comment, I know sometimes it's just too much to be able to leave words. But consider a kudos because they really do a difference and I'm sure I'm not the only one to sit waiting for that first reaction to a posted piece.
Moving on.
A lot of responses to this challenge have mentioned comment fic, and I agree, comment fic is very shiny indeed. But that reminded me of something. I did a comment fic with someone which was polished and eventually put up at A03. Then Bob left MCR and there were bad feelings all around and the other person left fandom and deleted the fic without telling me they were doing so. It's still up on my LJ where it originated, and I have the deleted file as sent by A03, but I sometimes wonder if I should re-upload it myself with an orphan co-write. I have emailed/messaged the other person but never got a reply, so I don't know.
In other news. I really enjoyed 1917 yesterday, and yes, James fell asleep. Then was abruptly woken by a loud explosion on screen. The same explosion also had the man sitting next to me visibly jump, it's a good thing he wasn't holding popcorn as the couch in front would have got covered.

Date: 2020-01-12 07:03 pm (UTC)I could probably do with a header too
Comments are always awesome, I need to read more of your older stuff
That’s a shame, I’d say go ahead and do that

Date: 2020-01-13 11:24 am (UTC)I've had such lovely headers over at LJ but now they're gone. Stupid photobucket.
I think I am going to do it. Everyone on here has given me the push to do so.

Date: 2020-01-12 07:23 pm (UTC)Relatedly, the MCU remains one of my fandoms, and I would be happy to read your Winterhawk. Or any other MCU bits and bobs you wrote. <3

Date: 2020-01-12 08:16 pm (UTC)I third (as of this writing) putting your fic back on AO3 with you and "Orphan Account" as authors. That individual has a right to disassociate themselves with fandom (orphan account), but they do NOT have a right to take down a cooperative story unilaterally. That's basically stealing your work, which is unfair to you and your fans.

Date: 2020-01-13 11:15 am (UTC)Thank you for stating that so plainly. You're right, I've always looked on it as they have the right to delete the work, but you've all made me see that I also have the right to have it up there.

Date: 2020-01-12 08:45 pm (UTC)Also echoing everyone else's comments about posting it as an orphan author co-write - it's still your fic just as much

Date: 2020-01-13 11:17 am (UTC)Oh man, yes, that. I can't settle until that first comment or kudos comes in. Until then in the back of my mind I'm always thinking have I just posted something terrible.
Also echoing everyone else's comments about posting it as an orphan author co-write - it's still your fic just as much
Thank you for that. All the comments have swayed me towards reuploading.

Date: 2020-01-13 11:18 am (UTC)Between James being startled awake and the man next to me jumping, I was very tempted to laugh at what was a tense moment.

Date: 2020-01-13 01:51 am (UTC)i can probably help you with some bandom icons! do you have any particular photos you love? link me if you do. if not, i'll put icon-making on my list of projects. :D
i wish i had advice about the commentfic. i hope whatever happens, it's an outcome that you feel good about. <3

Date: 2020-01-13 11:21 am (UTC)You are a superstar. I'll look at the recent photos and get back to you on here, I know there were some very lovely performance photos posted.
I've been swayed toward reuploading the story due to comments on here. Hopefully, I can do an orphan plus my name at Ao3 because one thing I won't do is name the person who left the fandom.

Date: 2020-01-14 08:37 pm (UTC)What Photobucket did sucks so much!
You know I always tell the creator when I like something :-)
I'm echoing everyone else, you should totally upload that fic again!
*giggles* Let that be a lesson to James to not fall asleep at the movies!

Date: 2020-01-15 06:10 pm (UTC)I hate what Photobucket did and no way am I giving them a penny. I lost so much to them, both fannish and personal photos I'd uploaded.
I do know that, you're the best at that.
I'm going to reupload it tomorrow. You all have shown me it's an okay thing to do.
Well, I'd say he's learned his lesson and won't fall asleep again, but we all know he will *g*

Date: 2020-01-23 11:25 pm (UTC)I had one nasty thing similar to that happen w/r/t a thing (I'm being supremely vague) and tried to contact the other person. They never emailed me back so I was like "okay, I guess you've checked out of this conversation" and moved on. NGL, 200% of all problems would be solved if ppl just had the guts to deal with things head-on. Instead of you know, ghosting for reasons that are never explained.
ANYHOO
I'm glad to know that you liked 1917; aww at James for snoozin' away.

Exactly. I know this person checked out because she was a major Bob fan and couldn't deal with the band without him. Which okay, is extreme but that was her right. Except, until then we'd been in contact lots via LJ and in email and DMs, so to be totally ghosted afterwards was a surprise.
Then to delete the joint fic without telling me, that was a big wow moment. It's lucky A03 also sent me the file due to being a co-writer as all the notes and links would have been lost.
I'm sorry you've had the same experience.

Date: 2020-02-02 06:17 pm (UTC)Like, I was such a fan of Bob's that it took me a looooong while to warm up to Pedicone (despite how close he seemed to be with Frank). And then, well, we know how THAT WENT. So now I'm looking at Jarrod and hoping like hell that he turns out to be a cool dude for a long time. XD
As for my experience, well, sometimes ppl show you who they are and you're like "okay, then, now I know." :|
