Corey phoned yesterday and told me that for his birthday his girlfriend had bought him MCR tickets, the Sunday show at Milton Keynes I'm 99% happy for him and 1% jealous. And you know I'll be asking for details afterwards.

Today we've been to see A Good Day in the Neighbourhood, and I enjoyed watching it. But, I think I would have liked it even more if I had any emotional attachment to Fred Rogers and his show, as it was, I had no idea who he was or what he did. Yes, it was a feel-good film with a nicely happy ending, but often I was expecting Mr Rogers to break out into a simmering rage as his anger seemed to be lurking beneath the surface. I don't know if he's supposed to read that way, but showing the way he dealt with and repressed his anger made me sad for him, like all his happiness and pleasant nature was only achievable with iron control.

The heating had gone in our screen, so it was a bit chilly in there. So much so that they were offering free tea and coffee.

[community profile] hc_bingo is running a mini-challenge round where you have until March 1st to write a story that contains all four prompts. As always, in a fit of optimism, I joined, and my prompts are -- wild card, taking care of somebody, haunted and dehumanisation. Which are great prompts but sadly can't bend to fit my ongoing bodyswap story at all. Hey, if I can I'll cheat a little to get a fill actually done. So, I'll have to think on them.

Also, [community profile] hurtcomfortex is gearing up again, but I'll have to think what fandoms to offer because there seems only to be me and one other person writing Musketeers for challenge exchanges so we've drawn each other a few times now.

And related, hello Santi in the episode three trailer for episode three of Picard. I'm very much looking forward to seeing you again on my screen.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Had I still been in Hemel you could of course have come to stay with me, but Norwich is miles from anywhere.

Oh, huzzah for Corey!

I'm going to see MCR in the fall so I'm BEYOND CHUFFED abt that. It was v. unexpected but happy-making nonetheless. I totes cried.

Hmm, that's an interesting take on Fred Rogers. I did pinged on him repressing but I also was a tad more familiar with him as a RL person. So I wasn't as bothered by it? I'm not sure if this makes sense but I think that he wasn't holding back a significant amount of anger. Hmmm, I'm gonna have to see that movie again.

Challenges/Exchanges season has begun in earnest for me too. [community profile] unusual_bearings has opened nominations (a pregnancy exchange for any configuration EXCEPT cis woman and cis man have PIV sex and the woman ends up preggo). Sign-ups are in 2 weeks.

Then, sign-ups for Id Pro Quo (a multifandom idfic exchange) are open til the 12th.

I have my Sam/Bucky V-Day fic to write and am quietly waiting for the Sam/Bucky Big Bang to be announced.

LOL, Corey's gf should've gotten one for you too. I mean, if she wanted to make a good impression and all. ;)

Yeah, thankfully, lots of folks seem to be going to at least one concert for this initial tour. Last Friday was HELLA tense, tho. Ticketmaster messed around with the prices and the queues were ridic. I have seen some pointed criticism abt the band using TM for the tour (because TM is a monopoly and their practices are shitty). OTOH, it makes total sense that the band didn't want to deal with the stress that, say, Frank goes through whenever he goes on tour with his own band. There's so much behind-the-scenes work that ppl have 0 idea about. It's not as if I'm excusing them for going with TM (which really did legal scalping. At one point, some nosebleed seats were going (no joke) for $5k.) I dunno, really (had a point and totally lost it.) /o\

As for Fred Rogers: yeah, the dude was a good person from beginning to end. Like, he WAS a human being, but I don't recall any major scandals.

Anyhoo, yeah, I'm trying to be a bit more conscientious about participating in challenges/exchanges this year. Particularly because I hate defaulting. \All the writing/!

I wondered if it might not have the same impact as it does for all the USians, with not having much cultural context for Mr Rogers. I hope you partook of the free warm beverages, it's a bit chilly out for no heating!

How lovely for Corey - I do hope they do a proper tour and you can go <3

Oh, yay for Corey! I hope they have a great time. And I hope the boys keep touring and come back closer to you again.

I hear you on the difficulty of having a small pool of people as potential matches for small fandoms! No matter how lovely the person, after a while it becomes difficult to think of new ideas for one particular person's tastes.

OK, first of all, how awesome is it that you and your son like the same bands? I love that.

But secondly, I mean. How hard would it have been to get a third ticket?? I thought this girl wanted you to *like* her! :)

It's so weird to imagine sitting down to a movie like that with no prior knowledge of Mr. Rogers! I haven't seen it yet, but what I can tell you is this: to those grew up in the U.S.? Especially between the late sixties and, I guess, the early nineties? The man is a saint. Just, like, un-criticize-able. (Which probably makes him a bad choice for a biopic, actually! No sexy scandals! No depressing heroin montage!)

What a fantastic birthday gift! Corey's girlfriend has excellent taste. I'm totally jealous of him though :-)

Lots of good luck with your hc_bingo writing! *waves encouraging pompoms*
