It looks like poor Murphy will be away a few days. He sneezed yesterday and blood splattered the wall. The cat lady isn't concerned, she says she's seen the symptoms before and it's due to his nose being inflamed, but still. I am glad he's there though as due to the lockdown the only vet appointments that can be made are for emergencies, and he's not at that stage, but cat lady has enough experience she can watch him and make sure he doesn't get to that point.
The UK went into lockdown on Monday night.
I knew it was coming after the ridiculous photos last weekend of people flocking to the beaches and beauty points, so many places were extra crowded due to the good weather and it was obvious social distancing wasn't working. So it was no surprise about the lockdown. And honestly, I suspect it may get even stricter than it is now as some people still aren't listening. It's much better than it was, but still, a way to go when groups are still gathering and people having to squash onto buses and trains at busy commuter times.
That's without the gangs who are finding it funny to go around coughing and spitting in the direction of others. There's just no need. The police are supposedly getting the power to fine if they find any gathering groups from tomorrow, and I hope they get used often.
Yeah, it sucks being inside and only being allowed out once a day for a short period of exercise, it's a beautiful day today and I'd love to go to the beach for a long walk, but know I can't. I also know many places have it so much worse with tougher lockdowns, but like I said above, I do think that's coming here too eventually if people don't change.
James is at work for four days from tomorrow, so we needed to go out for some essential groceries. We read through the list of opening hours for nearby supermarkets and saw that Sainsbury's was doing a special hour for NHS staff from 8-9. so we headed there. Only to find out the NHS hour was actually 7-8 and 8-9 was for the elderly, vulnerable and disabled. But that was fine, he fits those criteria too. Apart from a really long queue to get in, all was fine. Social distancing was strictly enforced and there were still big gaps on the shelves but we got the fresh fruit and veg that we needed, got more milk and bread and more cat food just in case, and were out of there before nine.
In a grumble that's very minor, I had to buy a different kind of cat litter and as soon as moisture touches it it turns to this fine dust which the cats tread everywhere. I'm on a two hoover a day schedule right now to keep on top of that, but it'll last for a while as I got three bags to last.
The temps are supposed to hit 16 degrees today and it's beautifully sunny, so after my walk around the estate, I intend to work in the garden more. I may even read my book in the sunshine for a while because it's supposed to get much colder at the weekend with some snow flurries on high ground, which, what are you on, weather?!

Date: 2020-03-25 12:41 pm (UTC)It’s scary times indeed. It’s really shown how stupid some people are
I’m glad you managed to get the things you needed. It’s so crazy getting stuff

It's been such a lovely day. I've enjoyed it the best I can before the cold comes back.

Date: 2020-03-25 02:15 pm (UTC)It amazes me how many people seem to be completely oblivious - going out for a walk is one thing, but crowding into places is ridiculous and actually making a point of coughing and spitting at people is so goddamn childish. I hope they get walloped for it.
We had to go to a different supermarket today, and there was a most orderly and well-behaved queue of people outside, all standing 2 metres apart. Beast was so impressed he muttered something about taking a photograph, but didn't. They have lines delineating where you may queue for the checkouts, too. All very sensible. Annoyingly, there were no lentils to be had. I have spares, but FIL wanted some.

Date: 2020-03-25 04:29 pm (UTC)Childish is right. I couldn't believe some of the photos from the weekend, people sitting shoulder to shoulder along the seafront, eating fish and chips and enjoying the sun. I mean, why would you?
I was impressed with how Sainsburys sorted things out, and mostly all was calm apart from the weird sight of multiple people in masks and one bunch of people who nearly had a verbal fight when it looked like a lady was trying to push in the queue going in.
Thanks for the rec for that litter. I've tabbed for when it's back in stock and I've finished the two bags I have. Which can't come soon enough, it's terrible stuff.

Sounds like heaven! People with a garden (or even a balcony) are pretty lucky these days. I'm glad you get to bask in the sun whenever you want to. Enjoy the fresh air on my behalf ;)
Take care *hugs*

Date: 2020-03-26 07:39 am (UTC)I don't get it either, and I do worry that things will have to become even more strict. At least we do have that one period of exercise a day and don't need permission forms to go out. But if people keep on ignoring rules they'll be inevitable.
I'll certainly enjoy some sun for you. I'm so incredibly grateful I do have a garden right now.
&Hearts; Same to you, always.

Date: 2020-03-26 06:21 am (UTC)The flocking to beaches happened here too. Unbelievable. Or, I wish it were unbelievable.
I'm glad you were able to get some more supplies. And I hope the garden was good to you!

Me too. Some people are stupid and don't seem to get just how serious this is.
The garden was very good to me. Lovely and sunny and warm, it was good to get out, even if it wasn't far.

Date: 2020-03-27 06:47 pm (UTC)Some people really do suck. I know the fines and things will be in REALLY soon and people will start getting a shock, because they're going to be strictly enforced. Why some of them need to be arsey in the first plae I do not know, but I figure it's because they're very stupid.
Hrm. Well, at least the vacuuming will keep you busy when you can't go out for a walk?

I hope they are because some people still don't seem to get it. Though, looking down at Lidl's carpark earlier I saw they'd finally applied strict social distancing and people were having to queue up to get in and while I couldn't see the door it must have been one in one out as people were moving slowly.
That's true about the vacumming. I've been surprised just how many steps I've got just wandering the house and doing stuff.
