Okay so. The fridge-freezer we have now came from mam. It always used to ice up under the bottom drawer at hers and then water leak onto the floor, and continued to do so after we got it. Mam died well over a year ago now so that shows how long I've been chipping away at the ice every week or so just to release the drawer. Lately, I got to thinking there must be a reason it did that, so I Googled and researched and watched videos and decided it was because the drain hole was either blocked or iced up.

Looked inside and saw it would mean taking the back panel off from inside of the freezer, which seemed complicated so I shut the door and forgot about it. Until a few days ago. I had plenty of time so armed with YouTube and screwdrivers I emptied the freezer, unplugged it, wrestled off the back panel, and yeah, everything was frozen back there, goodness knows how long the drain has been blocked but it had a mini ice mountain over it. Nearly an hour later and with the help of a hairdryer and skewer -- a pipe-cleaner was recommended to check the hole but I didn't have one of those -- I unblocked it. No lie, I felt proud of myself especially as it hasn't leaked or iced up since. Now, it may happen again but at least I know what to do now.

In the last few days, I've also sorted out the space under the stairs and the pan cupboard. It's good the public dumps and charity shops are shut or half of my house would have been gone by now.

I suspect a lot of people are doing jobs like that. On my jaunt around the estate yesterday I was talking to my neighbour who was telling me he'd been cleaning out his shed and had a lot of plant pots if I wanted them. I said yes and he put them over the fence into the garden, so that was good for us both. I do feel sorry for him and his partner though, their daughter turned one last week and obviously wants to be out and about. I'm just glad that she had her party just days before the lockdown happened.

James is in the middle of his phased return and just phoned to say one of the nurses at work went to see him and said he may be classed as a vulnerable person and therefore not able to stay at work. He said he feels fine but apparently certain kinds of blood pressure meds are bad in terms of the virus and they'd rather safe than sorry. Occ Health need to have a talk on Monday but if they think it's not safe for him to be there it means 12 weeks off. Which normally wouldn't be a huge issue just he's very close to the point where he drops to half pay after so long off work previously. But, as it wouldn't be him taking the time I don't know what would happen. Whatever it is, due to holidays he'd put in last year after this shift he's off for a week anyway, so I guess all we can do is wait and see.

I read through my winterhawk and Musketeer stories yesterday and you know, they're not bad. The Musketeers does stop abruptly and it's very much apparent that I did rush the ending, so I'm glad I didn't use it for the challenge last year. While the winterhawk is pretty much froth and I should just finish the damn thing already. I mean, I have the time to do so. Unless I break out the tool kit again *g*

congrats on your excellent problem-solving skillz!

I hope James' work isn't affected - but if he is sent home, may this not impact his income. I mean, being safe is key, but money is important too

Go you with the freezer repair! I'm impressed. I hope you get to enjoy the chip-free use of it now!

That sounds like a tricky situation with James's work. I will keep my fingers crossed that he both stays safe and doesn't get screwed over on pay.

Yay for your writing! I'm sure readers will be very happy to get some lovely froth!

I had a similar freezer problem some time ago. I decided to support the local economy and hire someone to do it (not least because it's a big unit and I'm not strong enough to move it). Yes, the drain was frozen... because it was blocked by a dense mass of spider-web!!! I don't object to spiders in the house, but the drain tube of a refrigerator seems a mighty inhospitable place for a spider to live and hope to catch anything! Still can't quite wrap my head around it.

Gasp! My fridge does the exact same thing, and I've never even considered fixing it myself! You're a font of inspiration!

Wow, that must have been both complicated and difficult! I'm very impressed with your ingenuity and energy!

Just imagine all the finds the charity shops are going to contain after all this is over! People are going to be able to fill up their houses with all the cool stuff someone else has cleaned out :-)

I hope the health talk went well for James today. It would be seriously unfair if he had to go down to half pay! I'm keeping everything crossed it will work out well.

Good luck with your writing!
