Aug. 14th, 2020 06:14 pmI'm still working my way through Downton Abbey and have just reached the first Christmas special. I do wish I'd been watching it from the start because it would have been great to watch at Christmas time for the live broadcast. One thing I have noticed is time moves very fast in the show, the war seemed to be over within the blink of an eye.
Pansy has been coming downstairs much more often lately. She still doesn't like Murphy and he doesn't like her so hissing goes on at times, but it's lovely to see her come down regardless. Because we got her as a feral kitten she's very jumpy, and in fact, anyone visiting would be surprised we actually had her as she'd always hide out of the way when anyone strange came in the house. It's the reason I don't have as many photos of her as she tends to stay upstairs, but some proof she actually exists

And the courgette photo. This is the raised bed in front of the living room window. So many courgettes are under those leaves, so many! I try to pick them before they get too big but sometimes I miss one and in a space of a day or so end up with something you could use as a club.

I also have many other courgette plants around the garden which have been planted in pots. And yes, I'm laughing at my past self who was worried I didn't have enough.
Staying on the theme of photos. Today I was proud of baby fannish niece who changed her FB profile photo to one of her and her girlfriend. She came out officially last month and it was all a bit traumatic for her as she'd been having anxiety attacks thinking her family would disown her for having a girlfriend. Not that my in-laws ever would, but baby fannish niece's dad is a homophobic dick, so yeah, go her.
I just got a strange comment on one of my The Umbrella Academy stories I posted last year, well, strange in the what's going on way as it was telling someone if they don't like it, don't read, and I wondered if someone had been leaving negative comments and they'd just never hit my inbox somehow. But looking they're responding to the person who went 'eww straight' to the chapter with Allison as part of the pairing. And that reply is one I totally agree with, I'll never understand why someone will read something they won't like, and not only that, comment about that dislike. Don't like, don't read should be a given, and yet so often it's not.

Aww *hugs her* that’s good! I’m glad she feels able to do that🖤

Date: 2020-08-14 05:53 pm (UTC)Yeah, me too. She'd been struggling so hard to say the words, so seeing the photo of them together is lovely.
They really are. But it's great there are people out there who will call the idiots out.

That’s true though they seem few these days

Date: 2020-08-14 07:59 pm (UTC)overgrown courgettes would make very effective clubs, and then you cook them up and the weapon vanishes :)
good on your niece - it's cool that she's feeling braver and coming out

Date: 2020-08-15 04:02 pm (UTC)Ah, that is a genius murder plot. Death by courgette, I would never be suspected.
My niece is staying with her girlfriend for a week, I guess that has given her that last push to be completely public.

Date: 2020-08-14 09:36 pm (UTC)I wonder if my mysterious plants are some kind of squash that has been lurking in the compost. They are growing very quickly!
Good for Pansy, coming down! I think it's difficult for feral cats to grasp that they are cherished pets, but she'll get the idea in the end.

Date: 2020-08-15 03:59 pm (UTC)I think you're right. I noticed time went fast in the first season, but the second with the war was like a whirlwind, one-minute people joining up, the next they were celebrating victory. I do agree about the fabulous dresses and servants, they're all very compelling.
If it's growing that quickly it may be a squash. It always amazes me just how fast those things can grow. I know the courgettes can go from inches long to monsters within days.
I often wonder what Pansy went through before we got her. Whatever it was it left her very wary of unexpected noise and movement. She'll never be a lap cat, but will grant us five minutes on a night where she'll lie next to us in bed, and I'm content with that.

Date: 2020-08-16 04:14 pm (UTC)That is a gigantic plant! Those leaves are big enough to use for umbrellas. If the courgettes themselves are of the same dimension they must indeed be enormous!
Congratulations to your baby niece!!

Date: 2020-08-17 11:38 am (UTC)The plants have gone crazy, my desk is just behind that window and I can see them from the corner of my eye at all time, and when it's windy can hear them brushing against the glass. And yeah, the courgettes themselves are big, especially if I miss one for a few days which is easy to do.
