dine I always enjoy receiving mail from you ♥
Literally an hour after posting my last post my internet went down and stayed down for days. After calling Sky they said it was an issue with the phone line and it could be up to five days for the engineer to come out. In that time I was quickly reminded just how much we rely on the Wi-Fi. In the morning I always listen to the radio while making breakfast, so the first morning went to ask Alexa to play Sun FM and no connection, and no actual non-online based radio in the house. Ask for the lights to be turned on in the evening, no connection, though they can be manually used too so we weren't stuck in the dark. I had to actually look up the weather forecast by typing and not by asking-- yes I know, my life is so hard, went to watch more Downton, no connection to stream. Same with Netflix and catch up tv. And that's without missing general browsing and online entertainment like social media.
Thankfully I have unlimited data on my phone so could turn it into a hotspot and connect my iPad that way, but didn't like to stay online too long as it was draining the batteries of both devices.
But, in the end, the engineer did come and he was great, working through a load of problems that had apparently happened together and got us back online.
In the last week. My MiL had a fall and couldn't get off the floor. This was in the small hours of the morning and she called us at 2 am, unfortunately, she phoned James' phone and he charges his downstairs while I charge mine upstairs, habit mainly due to always needing to be available for mam. Not that we could have done anything as in the end it took six paramedics to get her up. She's also had a nasty reminder that if you don't use it you lose it in terms of leg muscles, so since then has been trying to stand up a few times a day at least.
James is now on mega-strength antibiotics that came along with a strong warning from the doctor that he has to stay out of the sun while taking them and not to physically exert himself as they weaken tendons. He's only on early days with them and no change in how he's feeling yet, but I hope the side effects are worth it.
I've been helping Kayleigh clear her dad's house. While it wasn't filthy he's lived there all his life and was a heavy smoker so each time I leave I feel grimy and stink of smoke. Most of it is done now, with only the living room to clear completely after the funeral on Thursday. That won't take long, just the bed, chair, tv etc. Just stuff she wanted to be left set up as a living space as they're leaving from his house.
He's getting buried and it'll be the first burial I've been to. I can't say I'm looking forward to it at all but will be there at the back supporting Kayleigh. And, in regards to the neglect in my last post, a complaint has gone in as an independent coroner was brought in and he found some very alarming issues.
It's day two of a mini heatwave here, so I'm going to spend it cleaning and tidying the garden later as the weather is supposed to turn from tomorrow. I'll leave that until this afternoon though when James is having his telephone counselling again. I may even get some book reading in the sunshine done before the cooler weather arrives.

Date: 2020-09-15 06:13 pm (UTC)I'm so sorry that Kayleigh's having to deal with so much - it's good that people are pursuing the horrid treatment of her dad. nice that you can help her with clearing out the house; hopefully that'll be done soon, and she can get back to enjoying newlywed life
I hope James improves - if he has to go out, can he carry an umbrella to keep off the sun? when I was a kid,my grandmother had a paper parasol which was her weapon against the sun - us kids just thought it was neat to play with

Date: 2020-09-17 07:03 am (UTC)I had my issues with Kayleigh's dad, but I wouldn't treat anyone the way he was treated at the end of his life. The complete lack of care was shocking, and I'm very glad she has a load of evidence to support that. Though hate she had to gather that when she should have been concentrating on spending those last days with her dad.
That's a good idea about the umbrella, and one he's used since I first read your comment. The antibiotics have left his very sensetive to the sun and an umbrella, while it looks a bit weird in bright sunshine, is so much easier than keeping to the shadows.

Date: 2020-09-16 01:18 am (UTC)I hope the meds work well for James. And I hope you and Kayleigh both get to rest after your efforts, and that the burial will be a meaningful gathering for her. It's good to hear that the neglect is going to be investigated.
And with all that I hope you get to enjoy the time relaxing in the sun!

Date: 2020-09-16 09:53 am (UTC)I suspect Kayleigh's going to have a slump from Friday as she hasn't stopped moving for the last week or so. But yeah, I'm glad the neglect is getting investigated as some of the things that have been uncovered have been shocking.
I did relax in the sun, just not the way I expected as James' councelling appointment was actually middday, so we went for a drive and a nice walk after that. Though, as James is in his wheelchair atm it was a bit more excersise than I was planning.

Date: 2020-09-17 06:59 am (UTC)I was so glad I could use a hot spot, no internet at home was bad enough without being cut off completely.

Date: 2020-09-17 07:33 pm (UTC)Your poor MiL! That must have been so scary for her. But yeah, hopefully also a bit of a wakeup call for the future.
I hope the antibiotics has started working properly so that James is feeling a bit better. *sends him lots of good and healthy thoughts*
I see from comments that you didn't get to read your book in the sunshine but had a very nice day anyway. Our heatwave ended last night and today it's been quite chilly so I was glad I got to enjoy those two warm days on my balcony.

Date: 2020-09-18 07:43 am (UTC)It dropped again yesterday, but thankfully only for about ten minutes. I was starting to think, not again, but after checking via my phone I saw Sky had had a nationwide issue, one they got on top of quickly.
She left a voicemail and sounded so frightened on the phone. The problem is, both her and my FiL have mobility issues, though my MiLs are much worse. So if she starts to fall he can't actually help. She has nurses going in every two days to bandage her legs, and it must hurt to stand, but she has to do it or she will end up with no strength in her legs at all.
Fingers crossed the antibiotics seem to be working now. We think one of the other stones must be working its way down as James was in agony one night a few days ago, so only one to go now.
Same here in terms of weather. I love this time of year when we do have weather like this, a chill in the air but still sunny, the trees just starting to turn. It makes going for a walk be a pleasure.

Date: 2020-09-25 04:07 pm (UTC)Sadly James is still feeling pretty rough. But, all he can do is keep drinking, take painkillers and wait for the stones to make their way out :(
