I've been for my eye test today and it turns out the flashing I get in my eyes at times is an optical migraine, go figure. They don't happen often and go away within about 30 minutes so I can cope. The eye doctor was very taken with my description of seeing a disco snake and said he was going to use it in future, so there's my contribution to the eye medical world.

Other than that it hasn't stopped raining all day, so now I've got the candles going, the salt lamp on and the house is looking nice and cosy. Just right to tell my spider story, which I'll cut for those that don't like spiders.

So, two nights ago I woke in the middle of the night. James was watching TV in bed so it wasn't that dark, certainly light enough to see the huge spider that was on the wall literally an inch above my eye level as I was lying on my front at the time. It was easily three inches across when you took into account the legs and I wasn't amused to see it at all, but James blew it off the wall, so that was the end of that.

The next day, I was in the bath, was rinsing my hair, looked over the side of the bath, and there was the spider standing in the hall. Now, it was either the same huge spider, or it was another huge spider, I don't know which was worse. That time Pansy tried to bite it, and it scuttled in the bathroom, turned around, and ran into the spare room instead.

Last night I went to bed, looked up, and there was huge ass spider at the top of the wall. Now, I'm not scared of spiders but wasn't keen on the idea of it staying there, so James went for a glass and paper to capture it. I watched the huge spider, I suspect the huge spider was watching me, as it suddenly started to slowly come down the wall. Which, just, no. Looking at the bottom of the bed I found a plastic box, climbed up onto the bed, and trapped the stupid thing, and then had to stand there until James came back upstairs with some paper which I could slip under the box.

Spider and box held tightly, I realised I wouldn't be able to step off the bed without using a hand for balance, so passed the spider and box to James, who dropped it and the spider scuttled over the bed. Only to be trapped again seconds later, and another second later was encouraged out of the window.

Hopefully, it doesn't come back tonight, because if so I may have to burn down the house.

Bake Off was back last night and it was just what I needed to watch. I'm so glad they decided to bubble all the contestants, crew and presenters as it meant they didn't have to be socially distant so things inside the tent seemed gentle, feel-good and normal, or as gentle, feel-good and normal as collapsing cakes and bad bakes can be.

I also watched the first episode of 911 Lonestar, and yep, it's a keeper. Plus, new Ghosts which continues to make me smile.

A disco snake? That’s such a funny image

Damn that sounds so scary! *shudders*

Yeah it did feel normal which was nice. Although I felt so bad for the guy when his stuff got knocked on the floor!

Scintillating scotoma! I get those. Disco snake is the best description I have ever heard - that’s amazing.

I love the term 'disco snake' - that's just fantastic!

that spider sure was persistent; glad you guys finally got it outside, where hopefully you won't be haunted anymore

it's good to hear that Bake Off did the bubble thing, so the tone of the show won't be radically different from the usual. that's just such a wonderful show

That's similar to the migraines I get (although I also get the headaches some, although not all, of the time, and I always get postdrome weirdnesses too) - I have kind of a trigger bucket, if it gets filled up I get one, but it can be filled by being tired, dehydrated, over caffienated, hormones, sudden bright lights or sickening for something, so it might take you a wee while to work out what yours are.

The spider adventures sound DREADFUL. DNW.

Bakeoff felt gentler than it did last season, I hope that continues, with the effort they put in for the bubble and all that.

I quite like spiders, but that one seems kind crazy persistent and like a much better outside pet ...

I hope the migraines don't bother you any more than that. It sounds good to at least know what it is.

And I'm glad you finally did get the spider outside! I have been trying to be more calm whenI see one in my apartment, but there is definitely a radius within which I cannot abide them.

Good thing you found the cause for the disco snakes! My main migraine triggers are low blood sugar and being too hot for too long, and sometimes Just Because. Good luck figuring out yours!

I'd no idea visual migraine even existed! My mum used to get horrible migraines of the headache variety but never any disco snakes. They sound quite obnxious if maybe not as debilitating as the headaches. (Hers disappeared with menopause, btw.) In any case I'll keep my fingers crossed you'll figure out what your triggers are soon so you don't have to suffer them.

Gah! A gigant spider like that has no business being indoors! I don't mind small ones and I don't like killing even large ones but they really should keep outside. (Lancecat thinks big spiders are kind of scary so go Pansy for trying to bite it!)
