It should have been Houghton Feast this week, the sound of the fairground in the field next to the park, the scent of candy floss, toffee apples and chips, fireworks tomorrow, the parade yesterday, bagpipes at the opening ceremony on Friday, but obviously none of that can happen. The organisers have done a great job of doing stuff online, and they deserve so much praise for that. But, the first time in my lifetime the Feast has been cancelled :(

With the constant wet weather I haven't stepped foot out of the house this weekend, yesterday was Downton and surveys, today I caught up on some fic reading, mostly of the Winterhawk kind. A lot of Musketeer writers are taking part in whumptober, which is excellent and I'm really enjoying the offerings, except, due to them being daily prompts the stories are short and I always want more.

To counter that I've just started a soulmate winterhawk by one of my favourite writers which is 45k, realising how long it is I stopped at the end of part one and set it to 'read later' and will finish it in the bath on my Fire. No doubt I'll emerge looking like a prune but it'll be worth it.

If you have [personal profile] dine on your flist you'll know she posts links to fabulous content, often of animals. Today she linked to a post on we rate dogs and one of the dogs tickled me so much, I was laughing a long time when I hit Apollo and his long nose. Number four here.

And with that, I'm off to read about how Bucky and Clint get their soul marks this time.

That’s such a shame about the feast

It’s brightened up a bit today so I was able to walk the pup, but mostly I’ve just been snuggled

Hope you enjoy all the fic! I need to read more too

Aww yay dogs!

All our things have been cancelled up here, too. I wasn't so sad about sma shot day in July - they did a lot of brilliant online things and a coordinated clap/holler/bang out the windows - but I think that the winter ones will be harder, one misses the fire and the lights and the warming loviness I think <3

What a pity about the festival! So much has been sacrificed this year, it's jarring all over again every time.

I hope at least you get some high quality fic to read.

That must feel so weird! Emmaboda Fair was also cancelled this year. It's such a sad year.

Oh, so that's were all this rain is coming from! I'm very glad you sent it on to us. We need all the rain we can get, it's scarily dry here, so please send us all of your rain this autumn!

I hope you enjoyed every minute of your prolonged bath-reading session!

Your posts about the Feast every autumn always make it sound so warm and bright and fun - understandable, but still a shame that that isn't possible this year.

YES. I knew a Covid October would be hard and it IS. So many beloved activities, all canceled! I haven't heard anything yet, but I'm holding out zero hopes for the Village Halloween parade. :(
