Jun. 1st, 2023 10:20 amIt's our wedding anniversary today. Not that we're celebrating as James is at work. I suspect we'll go out to eat at the weekend and then off to the cinema. I was thinking about the day earlier and kept smiling when I thought about nanna, and how she sat herself down in a comfy chair at the hotel and didn't move, meaning she was in every photo, despite the family groupings.
She's a miss, and sometimes it's hard to believe we've lost her, mam and my FiL since then. Two photos behind the cut of nanna and Corey from the day. People who've been around for ages will have seen, but the first one remains such a favourite

Half of the desk is in the house now. I brought the legs home last night and it was like wrestling a metallic octopus as the legs and back are on wheels but hinged so they were going everywhere. I'll get the top later, so it's going for a drive to Newcastle and back today.
James is filming for the inclusivity videos at work today so made sure to look extra smart this morning. He enjoys doing stuff like that plus it gives the bonus of being off the phones for a while. So win win for him.
I watched the last ep of Ted Lasso last night. I may post something longer later but will say I shed actual tears at one point.

Date: 2023-06-01 12:01 pm (UTC)I chuckled a bit at my image of the desk back, though I have no idea if my image is correct.
I haven't watched any Ted Lasso, but I got a bit emotional looking at GIFsets on Tumblr this morning.

Date: 2023-06-01 12:37 pm (UTC)I've never seen a desk like it. The legs and back are in an elongated U shape, and each joint is swivelled with a wheel at the bottom. For some reason there are also metal bits that swivel attached to the back, which I assume is something to do with the actual desk part. The problem was, the joints were stable, but also very lubricated as it only took the slightest touch to get them swinging.
Oh man, I haven't even looked at any GIFsets yet. I need to prepare myself!

Such a desk probably deserves its own name...LOL. We had a handful of really huge L-shaped desks at work, but they didn't even fit in our office. Well, we could have fitted about six maybe, but we had 16 smaller desks in there. We had four of the giant desks in the old showroom, so I had one of them there. In the end, they gave them away for free when they repurposed the space. I took one file cabinet. I would have never been able to fit the desk in my house. They were massive!

Date: 2023-06-01 03:00 pm (UTC)They are great memories. Nanna was such a character, and really wasn't about to move from that chair. I'm glad she didn't as it makes me laugh to see her in every group photo, no matter what family or friends.
Gigantor desks! Thankfully this one doesn't seem as big as that, but it is a big desk, and will have a load of extra surface space each side of my desktop PC. Just right for all of my clutter *g*
I'm glad your work let you take furniture. When I was talking about the desk yesterday someone on LJ said how their work wouldn't let them take old office furniture, instead breaking good stuff up and putting it in a skip. I think that's such a shame. So it's nice to know other workplaces will give stuff away for free, too.

Date: 2023-06-01 06:42 pm (UTC)Anyway, someone at corporate caught wind of the "sales" and the managers were told they couldn't do that. What we were doing was using the money for food days, like they'd buy pizza for everyone, stuff like that, but they said nope, can't do that anymore. After that, they started giving stuff away. I got a heavy-duty lateral file for free. And I grabbed one of the smaller two-drawer cabinets that technically went with the big desks. So yeah, I agree, better to give it away to someone who could use it than to toss it. As long as it's not a safety issue, we said they should donate anything employees don't want. Surely there is some church or charity that could find a home for a lot of stuff.

You'd think so. Especially as office furniture tends to be good quality. Sadly, I suspect a lot of people just think it's easy to throw things away.

They were nice memories. Most of the day was nice, really.

Date: 2023-06-02 08:35 am (UTC)Nanna was a legend. When she was a young girl a fortune teller told her she'd die when she was 97, and she repeated that always. Sure enough, she died when she was 97. But was active and fully mentally alert to nearly the very end.

You know it is, he enjoyed sitting talking for an hour and being of film. Then he finished that, went to eat his packed lunch and dropped chocolate pudding down his front. It's good they'd finished *g*

Date: 2023-06-04 03:15 pm (UTC)The desk bits are all in the house now but I plan on painting the living room in the next week, so I think I'll hang on assembling it for now. It seems a bit silly to move everything just to do it again soon.
James loved the filming, it was right up his alley.
