Feb. 7th, 2024 12:52 pmI've had to knock the joint birthday dinner on the head this weekend, it was just impossible to get everyone together, and those who could get were broke. I'll try again for next weekend.
I finally watched Saltburn, and enjoyed it. I knew about the more notorious scenes going in, but actually watching them, they didn't seem that bad at all. Mainly it was just a very involving, layered film with some excellent visuals and interesting characters. Kayleigh watched it a few weeks back and said she thought I'd probably like it, and she was right.
Which brings me nicely to the Feb meme.

I love going to the cinema. James has an Odeon Unlimited card and I get to go free as his carer, meaning we can both go to the cinema as often as we like for £17 a month, and we go a lot.
There's just something magical about going into those dark screens, finding your seat and settling down to be entertained. The Odeon nearest to us is a Luxe branch, meaning all the seats are very comfortable recliners, plus, they don't mind if you take in your own food and drink, so I often have a coffee while I'm there. Also, on occasions, nachos. Odeon nachos with salsa, runny cheese and a scoop of jalapeños over the top are the perfect cinema snack, IMO.
Having an unlimited card means we've seen some excellent films in our time, and also terrible ones, but I can usually find something entertaining about what's on-screen, even if I walk out thinking, what the hell have I just watched?
When I'm at home, my attention tends to be divided when I watch films, messing with my phone or playing games on my iPad or reading fic. While at the cinema, I'm totally immersed in what I'm watching. I'm a sucker for explosions, big dramatic set pieces, sing songs, bright colours, things that wring your emotions or leave me at the edge of my seat.
I just love watching films at the cinema, really.
ETA: Saltburn spoilers in comments.

Date: 2024-02-08 01:41 pm (UTC)It really is. I do watch films in the house, but usually with half my attention. It's much easier to keep track of the plot at the cinema.

Date: 2024-02-07 07:52 pm (UTC)I keep hearing about Saltburn and I added it to my list but I’ve not gotten around to it. I keep hearing there’s ’notorious scenes’ and I’m curious ep to find out what they are when I get round to it
Ohh that’s a good one about cinemas! I love going to the local one but cause it’s so small it doesn’t get many films (and the odd times doesn’t help). Though I might be going Monday to see something
I kinda wish I had an odeon close to take advantage of that, it was always nice when I went to the Birmingham one.

Date: 2024-02-08 01:40 pm (UTC)I don't know if you want to actually know about the notorious scenes, but I'll tell you, with some spoiler space in case you don't actually want to know. Obviously, spoilers.

So, there are three, maybe four scenes that people are talking and reacting to. None of them bothered me, and I suspect wouldn't bother you either, unless you have the ick about het sex.
The first, the main character, who is obsessed with his friend, watches his friend masturbating in the bath. The friend drains the water, then the main character, when alone, gets in the bath and slurps the come streaked water that's going down the plughole.
There's a scene where the main character fingers the friend's sister, then has oral sex with her. But she's on her period, and they show his bloody fingers and mouth, and he says that he's a vampire.
Next scene. The main character strips naked and has sex with a freshly dug grave.
Last scene, the main character dances, stark naked, through the house, everything on show and totally full frontal.
I really did enjoy the film, but it's a bit of a marmite thing I suspect.
It's a shame you haven't got one of the chain cinemas near you. I can actually see the old cinema building from my house but it was turned into a snooker club then a boxing club when I was young. If it was the cinema still now, I suspect I'd never be away.

Date: 2024-02-08 08:40 pm (UTC)You seem to find something worth at least smiling about in most movies. Having a nice seat and being able to eat some nice food certainly helps with that, I'm sure ;-)
I don't think I would like going to the cinema now. It's too dark to knit and if I'm going to stay focused I need to do something with my hands, I've discovered.

Date: 2024-02-14 05:09 pm (UTC)I love the nice seats at the cinema, I feel quite hard done by when I go to the screens that have normal seats *g*
No, I imagine it would be very hard to knit in the dark.
