Feb. 15th, 2024 04:38 pmIt was the funeral of our family friend today. It went as well as these things ever do, and the humanist service was lovely. Then back to the wake, where I stayed much longer than I expected, and half of the mourners ended up dancing to Barbie Girl, which was surreal, and yet, exactly what Cathy would have wanted.
Sadly, I made the rookie mistake of stripping the bed this morning, forgetting I'd have to remake it again when I got home. But once I've done that I'm going to hit the couch for a night of TV, because man, it's been a long day.
But, before I pull myself together and do that.

Based on the rumours, there may be a new tv series being filmed, Downton Abbey.
I binge-watched all the episodes during the lockdown period of Covid. In one way, I wish I'd watched on a weekly basis while it was being broadcast, but on another, binge-watching meant I missed out on the cliffhangers. Though, it also meant some story lines seemed to last forever when watched in a chunk.
I love the visuals of the show, the clothes, furniture etc, and most of the characters. It was a nice bit of escapism when I watched, and I loved losing myself in that world. I do read fic for the show, but only the Barrow fandom side of things, which is Thomas, usually paired with Richard. Though, like so often in fic, the fic based Thomas is a much nicer and more rounded person than we see on screen.

Date: 2024-02-15 05:04 pm (UTC)Ooof. Remaking the bed up is SUCH a bloody faff, especially when you come back to it unexpectedly. One of my least favourite housework things.
Oh Halo Affect, early pandemic fic of my heart!

Date: 2024-02-17 04:47 pm (UTC)I had such a brain blip with the bed and not thinking it through that I'd be out all day. I saw the bottom sheet had popped off, so pulled it off completely and just thought I may as well do the lot. Then ended up having to redo it with clean bedding much later.
YES! And now I'm battling wanting a reread, which would be a huge undertaking.

Date: 2024-02-17 07:09 pm (UTC)We all make rookie mistakes but yes, it's particularly annoying when you do them on what's already a too-long day.
It's so true that characterisations in fanfic can feel much more true to both life and fiction than the "original" version! In any case I hope the rumours turn out to be true so you'll get more cheesy tv to watch :-)

Date: 2024-02-19 01:33 pm (UTC)It really did work. I learned later a lot of people who attended went elsewhere after they had to leave where we were, and didn't get home until midnight. I'm glad I got away before that.
Such a rookie mistake. But, bed was all done in the end.
I hope I do get some more cheesy tv to watch. The rumours were all over last week but have died down now. So, fingers crossed!
