Feb. 3rd, 2025 01:14 pmSad news last night when Mog on the Tyne posted that they're closing at the beginning of next month. I've been there so many times, taken multiple online friends there for visits, and while there are other cat cafés in the area still, Mog has always been my favourite. I'll miss them, the staff, the place itself, and especially the cats.
Murphy and Kevin went for their annual boosters and health check last week. All went well, except for Murphy yowling like he was being murdered on the way there, and then being told by the locum vet he's overweight. Which we knew, but our usual vet always says it's about health not numbers and Murphy is healthy, just a bit of a chunk.
Kevin was given some medicated powder to sprinkle over his food to try to get rid of his constant congestion. He hasn't got an infection right now, but you can hear he's got a congested nose, so hopefully, this new approach will help.
That appointment was at 9am, and in the rush to crate two cats and get there on time, I forgot to take the vaccination records, so had to go back later to drop them off, and then back again to pick them up. Which wasn't in my plans for the day. Especially, as James had a physio appointment at the hospital at 11.
I was half expecting him to be discharged, but his strength still isn't there yet, so he's back at the end of next month and has been given more strength building exercises to do, focusing on building up his biceps and triceps. He was also reassured that the pain he's having in his arm will be because he's using it much more now he's back at work, and isn't anything to worry about.
Left the physio gym and had dinner at the hospital canteen as the food is tasty and cheap, and we had nearly two hours to spare before the third appointment of the day, in another place of course, so James could see the podiatrist. Cutting someone else's nails is a hard no for me, I'll do anything else but that? Nope. Thankfully, other people will do it while making sure James' foot remains as healthy as possible. So, that was a quick and positive appointment.
That was the Wednesday, on the Monday I'd gone to weight management class, where we talked about portion sizes, which is still an issue for me, and for the exercise part of things I was paired with a new lady who said she wanted to challenge herself and take the three level step, leaving the two level for me. And, who was I to say no to that? Though, when she also took the higher strength resistance band to do rows I could really feel the difference using the less powerful one. I didn't like that, so claimed the higher one myself on the next circuit.
Another two days included time at the play cafés, I can't even remember which days now, but they were fun. I was looking at the calendar when I took Bodhi home and as of now I'm not needed for any Bodhisitting the whole of Feb, and Kayleigh said neither her or Lucy have any intention of picking up overtime, so it should stay like that. Do I believe that I won't be asked at all this month? Not a chance.
Yesterday we decided to go to Durham on the bus, have a walk to the cathedral and then back through Durham to get some steps in. On the way I called into a charity shop and scored a lovely dress and top for £1 each, which, bargain. I also got a dress from a different charity shop on Saturday which looks excellent on, but now feels really expensive at a cost of £5.
I also finally bought some kimchi when we called in Lidl on the way home. I had some with my dinner, and loved it, but it's much more liquid than I was expecting. Which I found as when put some on my sandwich and the bread got soaked. Still delicious, but so much juice.
No class today as Rosie has taken some annual leave, so I've made soup and hit YouTube for some online routines. I may even go for a walk later, or you know, stay in and catch up online.
ETA: Just saw Festivids are live and have just started to check out the offerings. The one for The Great Pottery Throwdown is beautiful. I love fans and how creative they are. The two for The Fall Guy are pretty great, too.

Date: 2025-02-03 02:56 pm (UTC)Poor Murphy! He's not going to be a happy camper, is he?
I'm glad things are going well for James.
Yes, best plan for something to go wrong and you being called for sitting duties!
All three sound like good deals!

Date: 2025-02-03 03:10 pm (UTC)Poor Murphy indeed. Problem is, he loves his dry food, so we'll need to cut down on that. No more free grazing.
James is getting on really well, and the physio was reassuring that the bone is healed, but pain will still happen due to muscle wastage. I guess it's just time and keep doing the exercises now.
Yep, there's not a chance I'll get through the whole month without being called to help. Plus, I've two free visits for Moo Bears to use, and I'm not going myself *g*
They were! Sometimes it's worth having a good look through the charity shops.

Date: 2025-02-03 06:44 pm (UTC)Poor kitties and their yowling! Mine are the same until they get there. Then it's a different tune.
Pippin insists she's not 'fat', but she's 'poofy'. Sorry, but when I see them from above, she twice as wide as Ozzie. I've never seen a kitty so fit, sleek and muscular as Ozzie. His vet always talk about how he is what a cat 'should' be. Anyway, Pippin says she's certain Murphy is perfectly wonderful just the way he is.
I hope the powder is helpful for Kevin. My vet suggested something we use for the rescue kitties as an additive for Chaser. I haven't tried it out yet. The thing is, she gets 1/3 of one wet food portion and doesn't finish it. Little Miss
TubbyPippin is happy to scarf up anything Chaser or Ozzie leave behind.I'm sorry to hear James is experiencing pain in his arm, but hopefully it will ease up as he gets used to being back at work.

Date: 2025-02-04 09:46 am (UTC)I know, right?! Murphy didn't make a sound when we actually got to the vets, and yet on the way there you'd think he really was getting murdered.
Ahahaha, I need to steal Pippin's description of 'poofy' for Murphy. That's another way Ozzie is the same as Kevin, the vet always says Kevin is the perfect size and muscle structure for a cat, and then there's Murphy, with his swinging belly pouch and wide body. But yes, Pippin is right, he is perfectly wonderful the way he is.
Adding meds to food is always difficult with multiple cats. Kevin has been making snotty snorting noises a lot lately so I wonder if the congestion is starting to get more liquid and starting to move. Lets hope so anyway.
I guess it's not unexpected he's getting pain in his arm with doing long commutes again and a lot of typing on top. Sadly, I suspect it's just time that will help that.

Date: 2025-02-04 09:38 am (UTC)Yep, we're doing fine. James is well into his third week back at work and I gave myself a pat on the back for doing an online exercise class yesterday considering Rosie was slacking *g*
Muprhy has been pretty much the same weight for the last few years, just a big chunk of a cat. He is happy and healthy, even if he does have a bit more dry food than he probably should.

Date: 2025-02-04 08:02 pm (UTC)Murphy's just big-boned, not fat ;-D I'll keep my fingers crossed the powder will help Kevin's beginning congestion.
Sorry to hear James still has a way to go to be fully recovered. It must have been a relief to hear that the pain isn't a sign of something wrong. Hopefully it will ease off quickly *keeps fingers crossed*
Lucky you, getting to avoid the three-step!
Congratulations to your charity shop finds!
Thank you for tellling me Festivids are live!

Date: 2025-02-05 02:34 pm (UTC)Ahahaha, yeah, very big-boned. He hasn't actually put on any weight for years, so I'm not that worried. He's just a big guy.
Yeah, I really did think he could have been discharged from physio, but it wasn't to be. I guess the pain makes sense with all the extra driving and typing he does now. But still, it's good to get an official view, too.
I was very pleased to avoid the three step *g*
I enjoy Festivids. Hope you find something you like.

Date: 2025-02-04 08:29 pm (UTC)I'm glad you got some kimchi!!! Yeah, pretty juicy :D save that juice for making kimchi fried rice if you ever have leftover rice (20 min meal!) or to add to soups maybe?
That's so funny your line being at cutting someone's nails :D it seems like such a nothing to me, but then anything saliva or booger related and I'd be out, so. We are all unique XD
I hope the powder helps Kevin!! Sick kittens are so sad ;_;

That is an excellent idea! I enjoyed the juice, there was just so much of it, so absorbing into rice sounds like a win-win. Thank you for the encouragement that it is tasty. Now I need a much bigger jar!

Someone in the world to do all the disgusting things! *g*
But yeah, James loves this tv programme called the bad feet clinic, and it's my worst nightmare. He has to watch while I'm out or asleep.

Date: 2025-02-05 11:18 pm (UTC)I love Durham its such a fantastic city isn't it. Last time I went was a couple of years ago for the Durham Miners Gala, which I'll be doing again this year. I also used to go there quite a lot when I was a member of NAWG (National Association of Writers' Groups). They used to hold their annual writing weekend at one of the colleges. Was lovely.
I do like kimchi. Kat_lair has of course tried it as she does like to delve into everything when she gets into a fandom (k-pop), and she has made her own which was delicious but not as spicy as I was expecting. Nice though :)
Oh yay on Festivids - I'm off to have a look at that. I do like a fanvid.
