Aug. 7th, 2025 04:48 pmI picked up my fruit and veggie box this afternoon, and look
Included that I don't think you can see in either photo, a huge honeydew melon, two kinds of broccoli, salad potatoes, aubergines a cabbage and corn on the cobs.
Also, a packet of dill that had gone slimy, so that's been thrown out. The box is advertised as fruit and veg, but they do sometimes put in treat type stuff. Which explains the carrot cake.

I usually pick up from the Re-F-Use café, but this time, with it being a different day, it was a pickup from an address from Durham. It was a quick drive there, but then I stood knocking for ages. Finally messaged the person who runs the collections, and they said to just go down the drive and the boxes were under the car port and I could pick which one I liked the look of. Did that and yeah, there were four boxes to pick from, sheltered nicely out of the sun.
Once I knew what to do, it was so much easier than a café pick up. Now I have an excess of carrots to deal with, and yes, more lemons *g*

Date: 2025-08-07 04:16 pm (UTC)I've just chopped up the melon to eat with tea. But I suspect the carrot cake will be sampled soon, too.

Date: 2025-08-17 01:35 pm (UTC)The main thing is to really just use orange juice (freshly squeezed ideally but I've definitely just done this from concentrate) as part of the liquid for the soup. There are recipes out there but the basics are
Boil and then puree some carrots in vegetable stock
Also can add onions, potato, tomato puree...
Usual spices include salt, blackpepper, thyme, coriander
Then the orange juice until you get the flavour you like
If you want it creamier, coconut milk works but I usually don't do this because I think the creaminess dilutes the sharp citrus taste
