Aug. 23rd, 2025 03:01 pmThank you
misbegotten for the excellent postcard ♥
I got a comment on one of my old bandom fics. I replied to the comment and the person replied again mentioning that they were exactly one month younger than the fic. Omg, talk about feeling old.
Kayleigh, Lucy and Bodhi are home, as sadly their holiday ended up being a bit of a nightmare. It was going okay until one night they'd walked to eat at a restaurant near their hotel/the beach
Kayleigh went to the main area to look at the menu, while Lucy took Bodhi to use the toilet. At which point the male owner of the place barged in and started yelling at them saying it was 15 euros each to use the toilet, they had to pay, and then started pushing at both Lucy and Bodhi when Lucy said no.
It apparently got heated then when Lucy, understandably, pushed past him to get Bodhi to safety as he kept yelling and then followed and started yelling at Kayleigh too, calling her a bastard and getting physical. His daughter started in on them then too, and in the end they had to run away, leaving Bodhi's new Lilo and Stitch shoes behind.
It sounded like a horrible, and frightening situation, and while I'm sure that guy gets sick of people coming in just to use the toilet and not buy anything, the way he confronted them was all kinds of wrong, especially as they did intend to buy, and even more so, who pushes a little four year?
Sadly, that tainted the holiday for them and they changed their flight tickets and came home early last night. Having to fly to Manchester then getting an Uber home from there. Which cost a fortune, but they just didn't want to stay, especially when Bodhi was frightened of seeing the mean man again.
They got home about 7am this morning, and due to us searching everywhere on Thursday, new Lilo and Stitch shoes were waiting for Bodhi, and some Spider-Man shoes that flash, so at least she's got her shoes back, sort of anyway.
I've been watching Parenthood on Netflix and really enjoying it. It reminds me of Brothers and Sisters and This Is Us, though it hasn't made me cry like This Is Us tended to do. There's time yet though, I've just reached the end of season one and have quite a few seasons to go.
After swimming on Thursday I was having a discussion with James about him maybe getting his own gym membership instead of relying on my guest passes as he's been quite often lately. We asked about prices as we were leaving the pool, and of course, got the spiel about it being cheaper to pay for a year at once. But we said we'd need to think about it more, and it's good that we did as literally, just after getting into the car someone from the doctor's phoned.
James had asked if his GP could ask about the GP exercise referral scheme which is partnered with the gym I go to. They'd done so, and end result is, James now has a discount card that means any drop in sessions at the gym only cost him £3. Between that and the two free guest passes a month, he doesn't need his own membership, so thank goodness he didn't say yes to signing up.

Date: 2025-08-23 02:31 pm (UTC)What a horrible experience! That man didn't even wait to see if they were going to purchase anything! They probably just want to forget about it, but can they report him? (Yay for getting Bodhi new shoes! What a great aunt you are.)
I only saw a few eps of Parenthood, I think because of a conflict? (I'm sure at the time I couldn't record more than one show in a time slot.) But I love Peter Krause and wanted to see him in it. Did you ever watch Sports Night?
What a great deal on the gym for James! Almost as if the universe was listening to you!

Date: 2025-08-23 03:36 pm (UTC)I hope they have reported him. I know the holiday rep got involved as she arranged the change of flights, but I haven't asked if it's going to go any further. I hope so.
Bodhi was so upset at losing her shoes, especially as she'd just got them for her birthday, I had to buy her some new ones. I saw a video of her earlier where she's running around in a Spider-Man costume and wearing the shoes, so it looks like all is well again in her world.
Forgot to answer, I haven't seen Sports Night. It's one of the shows I always mean to watch but haven't done so yet. On the list it goes.
It's an amazing deal. And the universe's timing was perfect.

Date: 2025-08-24 12:20 pm (UTC)I hope so, too. That was a horrible thing to do to an adult, but to a child?
I do recommend Sports Night. I'm not usually a fan of sit-coms because I hate how people have to do stupid shit in order to be funny, but that show was really good. I bought it for myself for one Christmas and watched it, like, three times in the next few months. (Being two seasons of half hour shows made it go quickly.)

Date: 2025-08-27 03:25 pm (UTC)Yep, My Chemical Romance have just started on some big arena concerts. It's so weird reading posts from some new fans, though, as many weren't even alive when the band formed. It's why I tend to keep to my own familiar parts of fandom then I don't feel like a crone *g*
I looked it up and can watch Sports Night on Prime. Now it's bumped up the to-watch list.

Date: 2025-08-23 02:47 pm (UTC)Wow! What a frightening incident, especially for a 4-year-old. It seems like they could do something else, like, lock the bathrooms and give all the employees to let paying guests use them. There are restaurants in big cities that do that. Or, he could have nicely asked if they were eating there before yelling at them. I'm sorry they had to deal with that.
And it's a shame we have that crazy wannabe dictator. I can't advise anyone here to leave and expect to get back in hassle-free, or for anyone else to come visit until he's gone. But at least our toilets are (generally) free!

Date: 2025-08-23 03:31 pm (UTC)Yeah, I understand the owner's frustration if people have been going in to use the bathroom or wash sand off their feet without buying anything, but there are ways to deal with that. Like you said, a code or key would make more sense, or at least ask before losing his temper.
Really, toilets should always be free. Expecting people to pay 15 euros each is ridiculous.
Your icon just reminded me of seeing MH in Freakier Friday. I'm so used to seeing him as Gibbs it was a surprise to see him in another role.

Date: 2025-08-23 03:45 pm (UTC)And we also got used to ladies holding their little sons as they peed on the curbs. It was different!
I do have a large collection of MH movies on VHS and DVD. I can't say I have everything he's been in, but I have most. But not Freaky Friday, or Freakier Friday. A lot of articles were teasing MH returning to acting, so many people thought he was coming back to NCIS. Maybe he is, but I've found NOTHING to confirm that. He's still involved with the show and could go back in front of the cameras if he wanted to. But I'm pretty sure this little tease about his return to acting meant the movie. We shall see!

Date: 2025-08-23 03:25 pm (UTC)It did sound horrible for them. There's never any excuse for people to get physical.

Forgot to mention that I giggled at the thought of your bandom fic having readers younger than itself. But yeah, where did time go??!!

Date: 2025-08-27 01:34 pm (UTC)The discount card will be well used I suspect.
I couldn't believe the comment, what is time indeed.

Date: 2025-08-27 02:42 pm (UTC)omg wtf at that owner! i hope lucy and kayleigh reported him because that's assault, especially on a child! and wtf isn't 15 euro like £15?! like, i get it, some places only customers can use the bathroom but THEY WERE CUSTOMERS. i'm so sorry they felt like they had to cut their holiday short, and that poor kid :( i hope they are all okay and that the wee one likes her shoes!

Date: 2025-08-27 03:30 pm (UTC)I know they reported him to the tour rep, I'm not sure beyond that. I hope so though, as he was well out of order. It was assault, and no way should he ever lay his hands on anyone. And yeah, around £15 each he wanted, even though only Bodhi had used the toilet.
B loved her shoes, and was wearing the Lilo and Stich ones as soon as she got home.
