Jun. 4th, 2003 01:10 pmGetting back into the swing of things after taking a semi break from fandom for a few days. It's weird because fandom and all it entails usually makes me happy, if I've had a crap day I log on, read/write and soon feel happier, but this time it just didn't appeal, so I'd log on for a few minutes then log off.
Anyway, two days ago my cousins turned up at my house. I hadn't even seen them for nearly 7 years. My mam and her sister stopped talking after my grandad's funeral and as a result the two families just stopped communicating. Sad because we were close. Lately my mam's been told that she's entitled to money that wasn't given at the time of my grandad's death. She's been listening to people that just want to stir trouble and don't even know the situation and sent a solicitors letter to her sister demanding to know certain things. Long story short my cousins saw the letter and came to try and sort things out.
My mam reacted by hiding in the house and refusing to talk to them either in person or on the phone. So of course they came to mine. It was lateish, and I was just going in the shower but had to deal with the situation. Going to my mam's and having to shout through the letter box for her to speak to them for almost an hour, the neighbours all watching to see what fuss was happening this time. She wouldn't come down though and unlock the door or answer us. My mam has a history of taking overdoses if things get to her and my cousins know this. Add in the fact that E is a policewoman and she was on the verge of calling the emergency services which would have been disastrous. See i know that my mam would be just ignoring us, she only pulls the suicide thing when she's drunk but they didn't. I had to plead for her to open the door which went against everything I wanted as I knew she was just scared of them confronting her. But L was adamant she would sit on the doorstep all night if need be. Cutting this short she did open the door eventually and they talked. And sorted things out in a little way, at least so no solicitors are involved. Sigh, I hate that the family is like this, fighting over money.
But I'm back in the fandom groove now, just means that I have about a million things to do and a few friends to mails and convince that yeah I'm okay, thanks for caring.
