turps: (happy dog)
I'm worried this morning.

My mam phoned last night as her dog Brock is ill. Well I say her dog, he's a family dog really. He's 15 so he's been there over half of my life. I only live a minutes walk from my mam's house so I see him everyday. He's lovely, this brown and white mutant Yorkshire Terrier. He's a mutant because he's much bigger than the normal Yorkie, and his ears stick straight up. That's him in my icon above.

He's had arthritis for a while, he has to take a tablet every day and cod liver capsules, and his whole body is covered in lumps and bumps. He gets tired a lot, but he'll still run after a ball and he's *happy* you know. He's the best dog and I love him so much.

Last night one side of his body seemed to collapse, his gums are hanging out of his mouth on one side, he doesn't want to walk. My mam and brother are taking him to the vets now to see what's wrong, but I really think he's had a stroke.

He's so old and I'm scared of what they'll say. I know he's only a dog but he's a *special* dog.

Just want to update on Brock.

He hasn't had a stroke. When they got him to the vets they found a huge cyst in his neck. The vet drained a little then he had to be left there to have the rest cleaned out. That was this morning, and my mam phoned after she came home without him. As he's so old there was a possibility that he wouldn't wake up from the anesthetic. Those two hours waiting were long ones I have to admit.

He did wake up and is home now. They've left this three inch slit into the cyst to let it completely drain over the weekend, so he's an open wound on his neck. His whole face is swollen still, his gums are still hanging down but at least he's alive.

He's on antibiotics, and goes back to the vets on Monday. If the cyst is gone that's great. If it's not he needs a serious operation that the vet has warned will probably kill him. But he's got a chance, that's all I care about.

When I went up he brought his chew rope over, so he wants to play and he's eaten a load of chicken for the first time in days. I don't want to get my hopes up, but that has to be a good sign.

Thank you all for the replies to my post this morning. It helps to know people are rooting for him. I owe every one of you a huge hug. *hugs you all*
