turps: (hot as hell)
I'm pulling the newsletter together right now and have a question. What kinds of post would you label meta in terms of the popfandom? I was discussing this with one of the popscouts last week, and I want to know what others think. So, any thoughts?

Now onto the boring stuff.

I don't know where the last few days have gone. Lots of stuff and tv watching mostly. I've discovered Criminal Minds. How did I not know about this show before? And also caught up on various shows, both downloaded and on the Sky Plus. There's also been much sleeping, I'm sure my body knows I'm off to Camp Sparkle soon and is storing up sleep in readiness, and annoyance at computer issues. Talking of which. Can anyone recommend a good free anti virus? I've always had Norton but my subscription ran out and I can't afford to renew just yet.

Saturday we went to the nearby old hillside cemetery to do a litter pick with the scouts. It was a lovely spring day, sunny and reasonably warm in the shelter of the cliffs. After being issued with bags, gloves and grabbers we set off into the woods, picking up anything that shouldn't be there. The old cemetery is an interesting place. It's nothing like a modern cemetery, instead the graves are set in the woods, on levels on a hillside. There's headstones from the late 1800s amongst the trees, soldiers and mine workers and the important people. All buried close together, their resting places covered with ivy and leaves. The paths have been cleared and shored up now, so it's easier to walk around, which is good, because that bag got heavy.

Yesterday was a duck race organised by the Scouts. Sadly we got there too late and all the ducks were home when we arrived. So we went on to the beach, where it was freezing, so we bought food at the nearby Morrisons and had a picnic in the car.

And that's that for my news, exciting I know. Except Corey has been awarded his place at the school we wanted. Not that there was much risk he wouldn't. We're in the catchment area and his primary school is a feeder school to the secondary one. But still, it's nice to know he definitely has a place. Now we start to save for the uniform, because, ouch.

Lets Talk

Earlier I asked about meta as related to the pop fandom. [livejournal.com profile] withdiamonds commented with something that made a lot of sense. I think of it as stuff like talking about footage, the music, writing, group history, info and anaylysis and opinion about present day activities for each of the boys, and bitching about JC's non-promo for his never-to-be-released CD. That sort of thing Donna, I hope you don't mind being quoted.

She also said we, as a fandom, don't do enough of that and I agree. I suspect that's because a lot of us have been together in this fandom for a long time. Maybe we think we know what everyone thinks, that you can only say something so many times.

I say, none of that matters.

So, I figured I'd try and get some conversation going. Something easy for now, because this could fall flat, but, shy bairnes get nowt and all that.

Last week a mini discussion about the This I Promise You video happened in my journal. Someone loved it, and the song. Someone wasn't so keen.

What do you think? Do you like the video? What crack were wardrobe on when they dressed them in those outfits? Why the boyband forest of doom? And how the heck does the cafe fit in? Is Joey the best thing ever with his ketchup eating ways? The bubbles. Why? What do you think of the song itself? Good, bad, so so? Is the video a good match for the song? If not, what would you have liked to see instead?

Just tell me what you think about the video and song. Just, no bashing. Disliking things is fine, outright bashing in my journal? That's a big no.

If anyone needs the actual video I'll upload it. If I can find it in my folders anyway.
