Author Reveal!
Jan. 7th, 2008 12:14 amThe MtYG stories have gone live, and I can reveal that I wrote Once Upon a Twisted Tale.
My first assignment was AJ/JC or AJ/Brian, and I nearly died of fright. Then the real one came.
I wrote for
bououou and who asked for JC/Brian or JC/Lance. After laughing about the fact that only days previously I'd been posting about never writing Bassez, I went to check out his journal, and found out he'd been in the fandom all of two weeks at that time, had no previous posts mentioning the sparkly boys ( in English anyway ) and no sparkly icons, so I was basically writing in the dark. However, in his sign up letter he did mention he liked crack, and I was like, yes! I can do crack.
I was amused when later that day
bououou asked if I'd mentor him, so I got to know him a little through emails.
The story came pretty easily. I have a beta filter and I posted there that I had an idea of JC being a character where his music was a physical thing, and over the weeks that evolved into him being the Pied Piper. Once that casting was in place, the others followed nicely. At least some did, it was obvious Joey had to be the wolf, but Chris was a problem until one day I had a bolt of inspiration, that of course he was the boy who cried wolf.
I really like writing AUs, and this story was an excuse to have fun with a world different to our own. I mean, how often do you get to mention AJ fighting a blind mouse, or Chris and Justin rolling in pixi dust sand? But of course that was balanced by the angst going on in the real world. Pen sent me feedback that made me think about the story, about how it could easily have the fairytale side stripped away and be a story about Lance feeling excluded by the others, and yeah, that would work. It would be a good remix challenge anyway.
In a way the Bassez takes backstage to the group dynamics and often I worried there was more a Brian/JC thing going on than JC/Lance. Which is understandable as they had been hot and heavy in the past. It's the ears, JC likes them ;)
It's a story that I had a lot of fun writing, and I'm pleased that so many other people seemed to like it too. Big thanks go to
vaudevilles,
msktrnanny and
nopseud, who're the best beta squad a person could have.
Yet again
syncalot was the only person who guessed I wrote this. She obviously has some kind of Terri fic detection mode *g*
I want to thank
msktrnanny for the amazing story she wrote me The Rest, As They Say, Is History. I knew it was someone that knew me well, and Karey sure fits that bill. I'm sitting here laughing to myself because I was actually chatting to her on AIM when the stories went live, and when I asked who she wrote for she hedged saying she wanted her friends to read her story blind, then I had to go and do family stuff and didn't get to actually finish reading the story and feedback for ages after, so sorry KC!
Lastly, thanks go to the ladies who kept the popslash swap running, and to
archie_gremlin too, because he isn't even in our fandom, yet did so much.
This SeSa has been amazing! Wonderful stories, so many recs being shared, people standing up to pinch hit. I couldn't be more proud right now.
