Jul. 19th, 2013 11:19 amCorey broke up from college for the summer this week, so I've been enjoying some lie ins while James was on night shift. Sadly nothing that late as it's so bright and hot during the day I can't sleep past a point anyway. The heat is so energy sapping and the highlight of my day has become the cold shower I take in the evening. Which is when I'm usually sweating from just doing stuff like tidying up and loading the dishwasher. Everywhere you look there are cats flopping around and the garden needs watering often. Even with doing that, some of the turnips have gone to seed due to the lack of enough water.
Despite that, most of the other stuff in the garden is going great. The non-seeded turnips are like triffids, we've started to pick beans and the tomatoes are full of forming fruit. We've got a steady stream of courgettes, and the pumpkin, which I never expected to grow once planted in the ground, is in fact, growing like crazy.
Last weekend wasn't the best as mam and Kayleigh aren't talking again, and Kayleigh pulled me right into the row by sending some really mean spirited text messages that included me. I was talking to her later that night and she was going on about how mam never fights with me. Which isn't actually true, but tends not to look that way as I refuse to fight via Facebook and text message. My method is to ignore always, and it works for me, I just wish those two would do the same.
Dad also had a really bad Parkinson's day. As usual we were at nanna's on Sunday, and you could tell straight away it wasn't a good day. He wasn't speaking, and then at some point he tried to get up and couldn't, when his body seized up. Corey helped him stand, and dad did what he always does in those situations, he walked until things started loosening up. He did look bad, shoulders hunched and going in circles, but nanna made everything so much worse. He's her baby boy, so it's understandable she gets upset, but she kept staring at him, mouth open and on the verge on tears and kept asking, do you want to use my walking stick? A drink? To go outside? When all the time he just wanted privacy to get on with things. So I distracted her by asking about her back, and she said she had good days and bad, which made me want to laugh, because she just can't seem to get it that it's the same for dad too.
Then later we went to see Kayleigh and Kay, and Kay got onto talking about Parkinson's and how it was a terrible thing and a death sentence, and it's just. She's a carer and her own dad has terminal cancer after surviving it before, and a stroke that left him badly disabled and needing constant care. So she has a more practical view on medical stuff I guess. But that was my dad she was talking about, I really didn't want to discuss how his Parkinson's was a death sentence and a horrific thing to suffer through.
I'm still plodding on with wave 3. No idea if it'll get done or not, but if it doesn't, it's no real loss. I did write something for Arsenicjade's birthday. It's an AU set in The Fosters universe, and for the first time I had to post something on LJ without adding it to people's flists, so that was a worry, hoping that had actually worked. But it did and she liked it, so win.
Other than that, nothing much is going on. Drives to the beach and picnics overlooking the ocean, watching tv with the windows open and fans blowing. Reading fic and writing a few words here and there. I've watched a lot of MCR footage and craved more Mikey centric fic, not that there's anything new there. I did get to watch the blackbird that lives in our ivy feed her baby the other day. They were on the wall ledge right outside my window and it was so incredible to see. Nature, it's so fabulous.
