turps: (cat look at me)
Nanna's funeral went as well as any funeral can yesterday.

Quite a few people went to the crematorium, not so many to the wake afterwards, but enough we could talk about her and meet up with people we hardly see apart from weddings and funerals. I suspect yesterday will be the last time we see many of those people as our only connection was nanna. Which is sad, but life I guess.

The service itself was a bit so-so. The lady doing it was lovely, greeted everyone waiting, personally spoke to all the people from the mourning cars, handed out tissues etc. But there was just something missing. At dad's funeral so many personal stories about him were told, but for nanna she said how nanna had a joyful life, liked talking to people, briefly mentioned her early jobs, then how she met granddad in the war, had dad and my uncle, and that was it. All the rest was how joyful she was, how she brought joy to others, how her life was full of joy, and while that was nice the focus on joy was a bit much. I mean, nanna was 97 years old, she had thousands of stories that could have been told. But no, it was all joy.

It was lovely to have Corey home for a while, and we had some nice chats. Strangely, often about wax melts and burners. He'd just decided to buy a burner, and had found a place on Amazon selling cheap tartlets, so we had a good look at them, and then mam gave him a spare electric wax tartlet burner, so he went back with that, and a bale of towels she bought him, and various things from his bedroom. I ordered some tartlets for myself, and he told me I'd have to tell him what they're like. As they arrived this morning that'll be my next task for him, that and taking his suit back to Newcastle as we forgot it last night.

Thursday was the gathering in dad's memory at Pauline's. That was nice, not as many people there as normal but enough family that we could remember him and just chill. James was at work, and was picking Corey up and coming straight to Pauline's, so I got the bus. Which was fine but seemed to freak other people out. Yes, it had been many many years since I'd been on a bus, but I was still perfectly capable of doing so. Even so, Pauline still had her daughter watching out for me at the bus stop. I've told James my next plan is to get the bus to the Metro Centre by myself, have a bit of a shop and meet him there for a cinema visit after work. And I will, after I've got over how much bus fares cost these days *g*

I'm glad those two days are over. Though mam and Kayleigh having yet another of their fights on Thursday didn't help. I wouldn't care if they left me out of things but they both tell me what the other has done or said, read out text messages etc and seriously, I was done. Mam did send me a lovely arrangements of flowers that day and Kayleigh texted to apologise, but even so, they both should have known better.

My uncle hands nanna's house keys in on Monday, and says he needs to see me about some business at some point, which I assume is will related. Before then I'm going to go up one last time and that'll be it.

It'll be strange not talking about her. A few of you have met her, and she always asked about my friends, even if she couldn't get her head around how I knew so many people online, and how I met up with some of them, and some came to me. She was blunt as hell, frustrating at times, but she was also one amazing nanna. I'm going to miss her but at the same time, I'm at peace that she was ready to go.
