Sep. 28th, 2021 03:01 pmIt was Pauline's birthday on Sunday. I have a few new people on my flist, so Pauline is my dad's long term partner. They were together for a very long time from when I was 12, so while they never married she was a sort of step-mam and I've always kept in touch even after dad died.
She loves to go out to eat but doesn't get a chance to do so often now, so I offered to take her out for her birthday and she picked yesterday. We went to what used to be one of her regular haunts and had a tasty dinner, made better as James had picked us up straight from work and as he was still wearing his uniform got an unexpected NHS 20% off discount.
What Pauline had picked yesterday for was she had a hospital appointment on the morning so wanted something to look forward to afterwards. She has a spot that won't heal next to her eye, and it turns out to be skin cancer. I thought they'd just remove that area but it seems it's spread under the skin so it'll be a big job that will go under her eye and down to her chin, but thankfully, doesn't seem to have spread to the mechanics of her mouth which is good.
The surgeon warned it'll be a big job but she's hoping for it to be a day case situation, but I guess we'll see. She's very matter of fact about it, saying it's cosmetic only and she'll cope, and I'm sure she will. Still, fuck cancer.
Autumn very much has arrived in the last day. I had to nip down to Lidl for some milk first thing and while it was sunny there was a nip in the air and I had frosty breath. Though it had been warned the weather was turning, so on Saturday we headed out for the day and enjoyed a walk at the beach.
We went to a beach we normally don't go to as to get there you either have to go down very steep steps down the cliff or take the lift that opens into a pub that's been carved into the cliffs. We got a drink there and sat on the terrace and it was sunny and warm and it was such a nice way to say goodbye to the summer. You can see some photos here.
Also photos of Milo and Murphy here. Included in that link, if you scroll is Milo's baldy patch. It's funny because the hair at the edge where his leg was is growing back to much thicker and faster. I don't know if it's because the skin is pulled tighter there or what, but there's a distinct difference, so much so when his hair first started to grow in I thought it was black bruising and sent a photo to Simply Cats.
I really enjoyed Strictly on Saturday, even though nearly 2 1/2 hours watching one show was a lot. And of course, Bake Off tonight, I even have some leftover birthday cake to eat with it.
