Oct. 22nd, 2021 01:10 pmThank you
dine and
sperrywink for the Halloween cards that arrived today. I've put them between the two pumpkin candle holders I bought so the top of the drawers is looking very seasonal.
I was at the Metrocenter for the first time in ages yesterday. So many shops have closed but more have opened, including Slim Chicken. So, attracted by the 25% off NHS discount, we went there for lunch and it was good. James had the wings and I had the no-chick tenders, and they were very nice. They came with a side of Texas Toast, which is apparently half a slice of very thick, soft bread brushed with garlic.
Everything was also coated in a seasoning that was tasty, but also extra salty. You were supposed to get bottomless drinks from the fountain machine, but they had no syrups or gas, so were giving out unlimited cans of pop instead, and the tables were full of empties. No doubt people trying to combat the saltiness. We also shared some dehydrated onions which were also good, but again, salty.
After I got a coffee from the Costa in the Odeon and it was so weird not going in to watch a film. But, we've seen everything we wanted to see that was on apart from Dune, and we have tickets for that at the weekend. So, we ate and wandered and more than got my steps in for the day.
I also got some new shoes as I've totally worn out the ones I have. Just some simple Mary Jane style which will be great for now before the ice and snow comes back and I have to move onto ankle boots or sturdy trainers.
The couple we met at Re.F.Use got in touch asking if we wanted to meet up on Saturday. It had to be a no though as it's the last weekend before my MiL's house is hopefully sold and the keys handed over, so some last-minute things will have to happen. Then next weekend my MiL will be staying here, so it'll have to be at least a fortnight before we can meet.
Originally my MiL was coming next Friday, leaving on Sunday, because my SiL, her partner and the two youngest kids are going to a Halloween party thrown by the partner's mam. But now, as it's school half-term next week, they've decided to go visiting from Wednesday, meaning my MiL will be here from then.
She also wants to go away with us overnight, so I'm trying to sort that out. I'm thinking of going to York, as it's a place we know pretty well but is just far enough away to feel like a break. I'm also trying to get my MiL signed for Shopmobilty so she can hire an electric scooter while we're there as I'm not sure if I can manage her wheelchair on the banks and cobbles. She also usually sleeps in a hospital bed at my SiL's or in the recliner here, so I was dubious if she could manage in a hotel bed, but she insists she can.
I saw York now has a cat cafe, but it's closed for repairs next week. Sadness!
Also sadness, Judi and Graz won't be dancing on Strictly this weekend as Judi has tested positive for Covid. Related, this week I've enjoyed seeing all the pros, contestants and some past contestants having Tilly's back when the radio host Steve Allen called her a 'chubby little thing' and really, there's no need. I liked how Tilly stood up for herself though.
Months after it was first broadcast, I've finally finished watching We Are Lady Parts. I pretty much binge-watched the last few eps and really hope a season two will be filmed. Such a great show.
I've also been listening to MCR's We Were All Teenagers Once Spotify playlist and deciding who picked what. I suspect I know Mikey's choices, others are a bit more blurred. Also, the photo header is gold.
