Joey is a top because, well, he just is. I don't see him being into that, too straight to even have another guy's fingers up his ass, if I'm going to be crude. (And that isn't a bad thing, just extremely unhelpful when you're trying to slash him with anyone without boobs.) I see Lance and Chris switching back and forth, depending on the mood or the parter, with them as a pairing it's hard to see who would be in charge, ya'know?

For the top bottom thing I agree with everything you say. Joey screams top to me, and I know that's totally stereotypical but it's how I see it. Plus, I'm a bottom slut, and I love the idea of Joey being that little bit bigger than Chris and therefore is able to blanket him totally/dominate him in a good way. In the spirit of TMI I love the thought of Joey holding Chris' hands up, then covering him with his body, so Chris has to totally submit.

Re the top/bottom thing. There are very few people I've ever met who haven't had a very clear preference, though of those quite a lot are perfectly willing to switch to make their partner happy or occasionally for variety... however, there are very few people who don't have a a clear preference or routinely fall into a category somewhat based on personality, even amongst those claiming to be versatile. E.g. a have a friend who insists he's versatile, but these days he gets fucked maybe once a year or so, tops the rest of the time, because he's a take-charge kind of control-freak person in RL and in bed, and that's just the way it works out.

And personality has a lot to do with it, IMO. Right now, I can only think of one or two people I know that I would submit to, no questions asked, because I know for a fact that I couldn't win the 'who's going to top battle.' Usually though, it's quite clear before I go to bed with someone that I'm going to be in charge... the really fun part is when somebody puts up a fight, and I can make them submit ;-)

So for fictional characters, their personalities within the story usually make me decide fairly quickly who ought to be in charge, although that can vary from story to story, of course :)

Actually, Choey is the only pairing I see him ever bottoming in, maybe not all the time but every now and again. But, guh. Yes, to the holding his hands up above Chris's head and completely covering him.
