I could recap last weekend by saying it was one of the best ever, but I'll give more details than that.
After doing some last minute errands,
ninjetti75, Corey, James and me set off around 11am. The journey wasn't that bad at all and I pretty much just spaced out and watched the scenery. Which was amazing for the last half hour. Hills and many sheep and just wow.
It was around that point I'd usually get the OMG!people soon reaction because I get so horribly self conscious and stupid. It's my constant fear that people will meet me and be disappointed because in reality I find talking to people so much more difficult. However, this time that feeling didn't happen. I suspect it was because Josh was there, plus I'd met a good many of the others before, and knew they were all lovely.
We pull into the driveway of the cottage, which looked amazing. Knocked on the huge front door, and was greeted by
turloughishere and
pensnest. It was great to see Pen again because she's seriously made of awesome, and turlough was just as cool. Hugs were given and I tell you, everyone should be able to hug a fan. The whole weekend was full of random hugs and nothing makes you feel as good as suddenly having someone walk past and give you a squeeze, or rest their heads on your shoulder, or just grab you and hold on. Man, fans are awesome.
Hugs over we explored the cottage as Pen and Turlough continued to put away the huge amounts of food. The cottage was amazing. Three staircases, a huge dining room with a table with room for us all, plus old stately furniture, a piano and even two thrones. The kitchen was just whoa! Two of every appliance and a table that stretched for ever. I spent a lot of time at that table, talking to various people and laughing so often. Upstairs were many bedrooms, complete with weird shaped doors and random empty spaces. Some rooms had doors only inches high. I think they were for the mice. There were beams and old wood and lovely comfy beds tucked under sloping roofs. Man, I want to be back there now. You could get to each room from each side of the cottage, but only by passing through other rooms, so I stuck to the stairs that led to our landing. Very steep high stairs that twisted half way. But I never fell down them, so that was of the win.
Oh, there was also a games room downstairs, a nook containing one of those table football things and a living room with comfy couches, a very deep fireplace with a real wood fire. Though we never used that, the fireplace was for storing the footage box, and a TV that stretched for ever! I haven't mentioned the bathrooms, some of which had showers bigger than my bathroom at home, with jets that squirted water from all over and a Jacuzzi bath. I tell you, I could get used to the high life.
After exploring a little we waited and during the next few hours James and Corey left and the others arrived. There were so many hugs and just so many amazing people in one room. I knew everyone there from my flist but putting names to faces was wonderful. I wish I could have talked to everyone for longer over the weekend, but sadly there was only so many hours in the day.
Detailed recaps are being posted at the
sparklyukfans so I'll tell you some highlights.
The Pink Book of Doom! Pen suggested that we write a story. Each person could add five words before passing it on. It was inevitable what would happen. Utter crack! It was amazing to see the story evolve and so many times my stomach hurt from laughing so much. Sitting at the kitchen table, surrounded by sparkly fans who cackled as they passed the book your way. The story is love. QUACK!
Related, the theme of the weekend seemed to be that I write crack, which hello, a few lamp stories and pictures and you get a rep ;) Anyway, I was innocently sitting in the living room, and suddenly from the kitchen there was uproarious laughter and I heard various people saying 'We must show Terri' Ominous or what!? I sat and they came bounding in, Josh holding up the pink book of doom! He thrust it at me, every eye on me as I read. And OMG! Anna is a genius and I mourn that the story was changed the way it was.
We watched The Reel Nsync, and at the appropiate moment 20 popslashers knocked back pixy stixs. It was a beautiful moment, we totally rocked at being in sync.
The hot tub. It sparkled with lights and had an inbuilt CD player! On Saturday night various popslashers piled in, all drinking and Nsync was playing really loud and the lights were flashing, steams escaping into the cold air as other popslashers took pictures. At that moment Pen gave me a hug, because yes, the weekend was working perfectly.
The next night more popslahers piled into the hot tub. Watching them with trays of pizza on the side, drinking various concoctions as the snow fell was so cool.
And also funny as we'd been discussing the cliché of it always snowing in Europe in fic, because it just doesn't. Then it did, and never stopped.
The meals in the huge dining room. Did I mention the thrones and piano? Well, we matched that with an Nsync centre piece, Nsync napkins and Nsync paper cups. Popslashers for the win! Also, the brunch where people ate traditional English breakfast, sausage, eggs, bacon etc, followed by Chocolate Death cake! Which was then eaten while listening to Backstreets conversational song.
The JuC porn clip which was more than life sized on that huge ass tv. Which nicely leads to the Cartercest movie. I didn't watch as one viewing is more than enough. I didn't need to revisits the 'well what happened to his foreskin?' line of thoughts again. However, sitting listening to the gasps from the other room was so entertaining.
ephemera_pop and
bubbleforest had to leave early, and suddenly a pile of popslashers were squashed into the porch of the cottage waving them away *sniff*
Listening to various stories being read. I love that so, and just wish I could have stayed up to listen to the end of Kicks. As it was, there was no way I could do that and still function in the morning.
The Nsync themed mugs seemed to gather for orgies under their own steam. I of course had to freak
trumpeterofdoom out by pairing her JC with my Chris. FOR TRICKC IS THE PAIRING OF LOVE! There was even threemanbus action going on, but poor Chris may never get over been thrust back across the table when JuC day clicked around.
Eating chocolate willies at the kitchen table. Some sucked, some bit of the head. It was a sight to see. Sadly my camera batteries failed and all I got were three pictures. However, one was of JM sucking a chocolate willie. I'm sure that means something.
So much footage. I love Nsync. I love Backstreet. I swear, my pop fannish love right now is full to bursting. I want to gather it up and throw handfuls of fannish glee at people and just say, look how wonderful they are! Look how talented.
Of course, they're also utter dorks at times. And the House of Carters is still a thing of cringe making.
I have a sparkly Chris bracelet. As it's too small for my wrist I wear it attached to my necklace. Rikes found me a matching Justin which I promptly attached to Chris. Coincidence that there was then a timbertrick sighting? I think not! *g*
There's just so much I want to tell, I could go on forever.
People I spent the weekend with. Thank you. For the hugs and the talk and the crack and the seriousness. The laughter and joy of watching men that we love. For being able to sit and just bliss out watching Chris singing solo without fear of mockery, though you all still suck for thinking I was more interesting to watch than the screen. Thank you for the vivid memories and the feeling of being with people who get it. For not killing me when I coughed all weekend and letting me pet you and letting me read stories that hit my buttons and then some.
Thank you for one of the best weekends ever. You're all awesome, everyone of you. *hugs and sends love to you all*
Special love and thanks to
nopseud and
pensnest. The planning for this must have been stressful, but you pulled it off and then some. You made many people happy this weekend. You're both amazing. Simple as.
