Who would I have to bribe to get a new Chris icon? I can't offer much, but will smile happily at you. See. :D I know there's some lovely ones out there, but I'm a picky cow and don't really like to share.

I'm skimming back for a week. I can't help it, I have to know what's going on and there's CHRIS! and CHRIS&LANCE! and this gives me joy! The squee is strong today.

Thinking of Man Band. There's something I've been wondering since I saw the show. Chris says he's a recovering alcoholic, what's people's take on that? I thought he'd said it in a joking way, like he did/does drink a lot, but didn't have an actual full blown problem, then I saw some people saying how they weren't surprised that he'd admitted that. I'm just wondering what others think. Do you label him as an ex alcoholic now, or was it just another Chris comment?

If this has been discussed elsewhere, link me please.

An update to my Harry Potter woes. We took the book back yesterday but the shop had no copies left to exchange it with. I'd bought it from Asda when it was being sold for £5 which is what I got back, which of course isn't enough to buy another copy elsewhere. So I'll have to wait until next week to finish the book.

In other news, someone was murdered near my house last night. He was whacked over the head with a fire extinguisher and left in the road. Kay saw it happen from her flat, so she's being questioned by the police.

TEAM FAB CHRIS!!

Ahem, anyway. I think Chris made the alcoholic comment as a joke, in that dead pan Chris way where, you know, he's joking, but he's not, but he is. He knows he drinks too much for his own good, but he's not an addict; he knows he drinks out of lonliness and because he's depressed, but he's not so depressed he can't still make jokes about it.

My friend Jacob is weecapping Manband for TwoP, and I think I have done an excellent job of convincing him that Chris is awesome.

YOUR ICON IS ONE OF WONDER!

All I can say to your comment is, I so agree. I was kind of boggled by the 'omg, Chris is an alcoholic!' comments because I didn't see it that way. Not to the needing alcohol to exist level anyway.

I need to head over to TWOP and link for the newsletter. I'll add a link if he's nice to Chris ;)

[livejournal.com profile] txtequilanights made my icon, and she would probably make you one of your very own if you told her you liked this one. I have converted her so thoroughly to Team Chris it is amazing. Of course, she already owned O-TOWN, so it wasn't exactly a stretch :P

Jacob starts out not so much enjoying Chris because of how depressed Chris is, but then he ends up liking him. I just need to work on Jacob a little bit more, get the Chris love in.

*hugs* glad you're back girly. Yes last week was wonderful and very squee worthy. LOL figures the week you go on holiday is when things happen. It's all good :)

As for Chris' comment---it was Chris being Chris. I didn't even think twice when he said and then later everyone was like "I didnt know he was....". Now people who don't know Chris' humor are branding him as such. Maybe since the whole thing with Bryan and the group starting up he's cut down on the drinking but neh... Chris is good :)

It's good to be back. I missed you all. But man, you were all chatty last week. I've just hit skip 1000 and still didn't reach when I left *g*

I totally agree with you. It was Chris being Chris, but I've seen posts about how people weren't surprised he was an alcoholic and just, wow. Are they seeing the same person?

I made an icon, I hope you like it. I'm not really all that skilled in icon making.

I really don't know. It's hard to tell with Chris.

You're great at icon making, and he's doing the eyebrow thing! I love it! Thank you!

Yeah, it is hard to tell. Personally I think he was joking with a touch of truth. I don't believe he's a former raving alcoholic or anything.

Yay, I'm glad you like it! :-)

Personally I think he was joking with a touch of truth.

I think so, too. I'd say he drinks a lot and he knows it, but he doesn't "need" it.

It looks like it was someone who'd been drinking there, one of the local hardmen. I imagine drink was involved somehow.

THAT IS SO WRONG! We obviously need another meet up so we can have a Man Band marathon.

I missed the last week of lj and am just catching up on th Chris/Lance squee as well! I love them!

And I seem to be going against the rest of the comments by thinking that Chris was serious about being an alcoholic. Yes, he said it in a very joking way - a very CHRIS way - but from hearing him talk on the radio with Joey last fall and watching this show now, I see it. Alcoholism isn't just physical dependence on alcohol (and even that, who knows, he might be!), but also continuing to drink even though it is negatively affecting your career, friendships and health or drinking to control your feelings.

I don't know though. I'm a child and a sister of alcoholics. I as just at an AA meeting yesterday because my sister was getting her 1 year chip and I got to hear peoples' stories, so maybe the ALCOHOLIC stamp is just on my mind.

Hee, I'm a picky cow, too. Hence no new Chris icon. Woe!

That sucks about the HP book! I hope you get to finish it soon.

I don't know about Chris. But I think he was drinking more than was good for him. Does that make him an alcoholic? Depends on your definition I guess.

I hate being so picky about icons, but they have to work for me, and be mine. I do have shared icons, but only of ones I've fallen in love with totally.

I still don't have the HP book! Hopefully tomorrow though.

I agree he was drinking more than was good for him, but you're right, it all depends on what your definition of an alcoholic is. To me he doesn't seem a classic alcoholic, to others, he may be.

I don't think Chris has got an alcoholism problem, you know? I was shocked by what he said in the show, but I just don't think drinking is a problem for him. He look so composed and so sensible that I doubt it. But well, that might be just me. *blush*

The new icon is fabulous.

And I'm going with the alcoholism as a joke but with a kernal of truth that doesn't actually worry Chris very much. He says on The View (I think) that he's had issues with alcohol and drugs and it was much more of an offhand thing. I think the editors were creating drama and know he's a party boy and that would lead to interesting things for Bryan.

I also think Chris really used Manband as a way to get himself healthy again - whether consciously or not. Something for him to concentrate on, work out for, have people around again not just for partying. It's the only reason I can think of for him to do it y'know?

I keep thinking that somebody should snap him up as a host for an interview show - probably on something where he's a part of a team and where he can be funny. He's brilliant with the media, understands the whole sound bite thing and plays in a way that many people lack confidence for, while still being able to answer questions fully and well.

YAY you're back to do this with *hugs*

It's an amazing icon :)

I think you're right. I think a lot of things have been manipulated for the show, and they're creating drama where there shouldn't be any. I mean, it's obvious Chris did drink a lot, and probably did so to an unhealthy level, but at the same time, he doesn't strike me as a classic alcoholic.

I agree again, the show is giving him a chance to clean up, and he looks wonderful doing so. He has a new spark about him that's been missing for a while, and that's good to see.

Oh man yes! He's awesome with the media and would make such a good host. I'd love to think that Manband leads to offers like that. That would be amazing.

I am back! *clings*

I'm weighing in on the joke with a kernel of truth side--because he does and has struck me as a functioning alcoholic. And that joking would fit how I'd think he'd deal with it.

I think the problem is how we look at the term alcoholic. It brings to mind someone unable to function and totally defendant on alcohol, which I don't think is him. But I agree with you, there's a problem there. Which is sad.

I've just read Stephen King's book about writing, which is very interesting, and in which he talks about being an alcoholic. One thing in it which really struck me very powerfully was where he said that at the end of the evening if he wanted to go to bed he would take any beer left in the fridge and pour it away down the sink, because that was the only way he could stop himself from keeping drinking until he finished the lot. And how even now, when he sees someone in a restaurant leave half a glass of wine he feels like walking over and saying How can you do that? Finish it! Finish it!.

I don't know for sure about Chris, obviously, but I'm with [livejournal.com profile] withdiamonds on this, in that people can drink more than is good for them, or do more drugs than is good for them, for a variety of reasons, without being a clinical alcoholic or addict.

And, ack! Poor Kay! I'm glad she isn't too totally traumatised by the whole thing.
