turps: (Team fab Chris (txtequilanights))

I've just been watching the Manband extras at Jilly's post, and there's one where Chris tells the story of how he bought his mom a house.

That, is one of the many reasons I admire that man so much.

I love that clip. He's so matter-of-fact, now, about incredibly hard times when he was a kid. And he must have enjoyed *so much* being able to surprise his mom with a house. Just wonderful. And even that "Bitch, it's your house" comment entertains me because of the glimpse it shows into the kind of relationship the two of them must have.

great clip indeed--- chris being serious and then in true chris fashion he caps it off with a comment like that. Bev definitely did a good job in raising him.

They do have a fascinating relationship, one that seems to be weighted toward friends rather than parent to me. Probably because of how young Bev was when Chris was born, and also that he's been an adult from a young age.

In her own way she seems as protective as Lynn, just not as visible. Of course she's taken it too far at times, but what they've all lived through, it's not surprising she's so fiercely protective of her children.

That reminds me of something in Rhys' 'MPREG', about how Lance's relationship with his parents was different from Chris with Bev - and that exact point, about how they were really very close in age, is obviously important. And yes, Chris having to grow up young, get a job, help support the family, must have made them partners in a way.

Great round of extras this time--usually theyre funny and maybe one or two serious but this time a majority of them are serious and just pull at your heartstrings--that one in particular. Guh... he's such a good boy. There are no words...

I saw that one! *hearts* I thought Miss Kate was going to lose it when Chris was talking about being on welfare and living in the trailer with the giant hole in it, and sleeping in dirty laundry.

It's weird. All those things are mentioned in fics, and it's like, Chris slept in dirty laundry, in his car, very little money etc, and they become story parts. Then you see him actually tell the story again, so matter of fact, and you're struck that those things really did happen.

Hopefully that makes sense.

It's a much different impact hearing him actually say it than it is reading it in a fic, for sure. And he says it like... "Oh, this is the way it was, whatever" and not "feel sorry for me I was really really poor". I really respect Chris for recognizing how lucky he is to be where he is now, and for not being ashamed of how he grew up. And for seeing how strong his mom is and having so much respect for her. A lot of people would be resentful of their moms for raising them that way or blame their mothers, but Chris never does.

I'm sure she is. Bev has always seemed to have his back. A little too much at times.

Got it from [livejournal.com profile] manband already, actually. Thank god somebody's ripping those pesky streaming videos for us!
