Poll time!
Oct. 15th, 2007 02:02 pmA few days ago I asked for the worst pairing names people knew. I was given some horrible examples, but of course there has to be a winner of most horrific smushed up name. Therefore, poll time!
This is a poll only about the actual pairing name, who that pairing contains doesn't come into it. I've included all the examples I was given, a truly horrific list taken from various fandoms. Plus some questions brought up in comments of the post.
[Poll #1071614]
Feel free to expand in comments, and if anyone wants to join the Bassez, JuC debate with a voice post, a virtual cookie for you.

Date: 2007-10-15 01:44 pm (UTC)Smushed pairing names are an abomination!!! Kill them all!!!!
Uhm, I might feel a bit strongly about this :-)

Date: 2007-10-15 01:57 pm (UTC)You know which one I hate in popslash? Trickykitten. It's not a smushed name, but I hate it anyway. Kitten. GAH!

Date: 2007-10-15 02:04 pm (UTC)Trickykitten is silly! Not to mention relying far too much on fanon interpretations to be even understandable.

Date: 2007-10-15 02:07 pm (UTC)Also. YES! Not to mention relying far too much on fanon interpretations to be even understandable.
My dislike of the kitten thing is huge, and that name just plays into that. I have fists of fury when I see it!!!!

Date: 2007-10-15 01:54 pm (UTC)Ahahahaha. Join the club. I always spell it Bassez, but see Basez too. So who knows.
You wouldn't be you if you didn't feel strongly about this stuff *mwah*

Date: 2007-10-15 02:08 pm (UTC)You know, this is why I never really get why people say that I'm nice. I'm not nice! I'm bitchy and got a strong opinion about a lot of things! Of course, everything else I'm extremely laidback about so perhaps it evens out :-)

Date: 2007-10-15 01:52 pm (UTC)I've always loved the popslash pairing names, but others leave me cold. Which yes, makes no sense at all.

Date: 2007-10-15 02:08 pm (UTC)These pairing names are all quite awful. The worst I've hear in a fandom that I'm in is "Padackles" for Jared/Jensen. I'm so glad that it seems largely abandoned in favor of j² (even if that's not mathematically correct).

Date: 2007-10-15 02:38 pm (UTC)I remember Padackles. That's so complicated and weird looking. In this case I totally prefer the J2.

Date: 2007-10-15 02:40 pm (UTC)And I pronounce it "bass-aye" - bass like the fish, aye like the letter "A".

Date: 2007-10-15 02:47 pm (UTC)It seems Bassez has many different pronunciations. That's so cool.

Date: 2007-10-15 02:42 pm (UTC)Also. Dude. I had never heard Spiles before, and can I just say I wish I had gone my merry, innocent way, all unknowing the horror I was missing? Because ack. And I actually like the pairing (Spike/Giles, I assume?). But. But. It's just so very... icky.

Date: 2007-10-15 02:45 pm (UTC)Spiles is just wrong. It sounds like a medical complaint, and that's never good.

Date: 2007-10-15 02:54 pm (UTC)And Spiles: Egggs-actly. And not a pretty medical complaint, either. *makes wrinkled-nose, scrinchy face, shudders*

Date: 2007-10-15 02:56 pm (UTC)Yep, I have to admit it's not a word that I say often, even at fannish gatherings *g*

no subject
Date: 2007-10-15 04:02 pm (UTC)I know a few people pronounce it juck. But from what I see, they're in the minority.

Date: 2007-10-15 05:36 pm (UTC)Right now it looks like it's an incredibly tiny minority of one :-)

Date: 2007-10-15 04:33 pm (UTC)I also think TrickC and JuC are good ones. And one of my favorite pairing names is A-Rok, but that's not really squishing names together.

Date: 2007-10-15 05:14 pm (UTC)God, some of those pairing names... heeeh!

Date: 2007-10-15 05:22 pm (UTC)Unrelated. It's good to see you again :)

Date: 2007-10-15 06:58 pm (UTC)I find all these names hilarious. I actually saw one on a list when I first came into pop fandom that listed a possibility for JoLa as Fatass! I adore that. *g*

Date: 2007-10-16 11:40 am (UTC)Also, I pronounce Bassez so it rhymes with Chasez. Ba-zaay.
